Anyone bought thru this site ? Is it usual to not have your questions answered by the seller ? I've been looking at a couple guns, asked a simple question or two, and of the 4 or 5 sellers I've contacted, only one has replied. Is it just me or is my typing bad breath the problem ?
I bought my 4040pd from a dealer on gunbroker. He responded very quickly and actually negotiated a better price. If you have difficulty communicating with them before the sale, you can imagine what it would be like if you had a problem. If they do not reply with in 24 hours, do not do business with them.
GB itself it ok, it's the sellers you have to be concerned with.
Just like ebay, each seller is a character onto himself.
I've bought from a few sellers, so far so good.
but like any place, buyer beware.
No problems with 3 or 4 transactions that I've done on there. I would imagine there would be some sellers that are out to unload some junk, just like other online auction sites.
The above comment is very true. I've bought and sold several guns, accessories, reloading stuff, etc. Only had one "problem" when a bullet seller couldn't deliver because of some kind of quality control problem. He did however credit me promptly when I cancelled the order. Gun folks are generally pretty good people to deal with. As with EBay check their feedback and see what, if any, problems people report.
Gunbroker has some good deals. You just have to read the feedback and search through the listings to find who has the good prices. There are alot of guns on there for good prices, but there is also a few guys who sell at retail, which is too high. AuctionArms is another good one, but with fewer gun listing. Guns America classifieds has some great deals and quite a few guns.
So you guys would recommend looking on these sites for a decent o/u for trapshooting? The local stores carry used guns, but they buy low and sell very high. Worse yet, you cannot test the gun, nor can you return it if a problem is discovered.
Most sellers offer a 3 day non fire inspection, if you choose to send it back you pay the shipping and what ever gun broker fees that were charged to the seller. Also all rifles and handguns have to be shipped to an FFL holder or a C&R license holder. I have purchased two rifles from there with great success, both fire and are very accurate. I have also purchased alot of ammunition with the same success. As stated above check out the sellers feedback and know what you want and the value of it before bidding, all bids are final no going back. I have let several auctions go because the price went way above what I wanted to pay and what the item was worth.
Sounds much like ebay, but I'll bet the gunbroker site has better characters overall doing the selling.
One of the other trapshooting coaches on our team is also a national magazine gun editor and has a FFL he uses all the time to have new models of guns shipped for testing. I'm sure he would ship a used one in for me.
Too bad lead is so heavy and expensive to ship, keeping up with these highschool kids is running the local stores (and me) out of lead shot! I wonder if I could find a MEC 9000 there. . ?
I'll have to keep an eye on that auction. I read some of their rules: I find it amusingly ironic that a gun auction website does not permit sniping... :-laf
If you're looking for lead shot, try Widener's Reloading and Shooting Supply INC. It's only about $24 a sack and you can ship 2 of them in the flate rate box for pretty cheap.
I've bought over 20 guns on gunbroker and so far I've never gotten screwed. I had bought 1 gun that was a nib rifle from the 70's and the sights were off from the factory(seen one other like that before), I returned it and all it cost me was shipping back. The seller never knew because it was a collectors gun and had never been shot.
