Recently read the archives about removing the silencer ring for more whine and yes it does make a difference. Also noticed 20 boost after removing, used to be 19 when it was on (don't ask my why).

Anyway, my question is about the black gunk on the inside of the turbo. I would like to clean it up, but don't know what to do. Growing up on the farm we would spray "starting fluid" on everything to clean it, because it would dry fast, but I doubt that is recommended here. Has anyone cleaned their turbo? And if so, how did you do it?

I don't know how to input a signature yet, so here is my small list.

01 QC 4X4, Auto, Pyro - Boost - Trans, aFe, Banks Brake (don't use it yet - need transmission upgrade "probably ATS"), 5" Exhaust, and waiting for an Edge Comp and BDIIs

I had the same gunk on mine. I unhooked the intercooler boot under the turbo, slid it out of the way,and cleaned the turbo fins with parts cleaner(brakeclean),let the brake clean go outon the driveway where it dried. reconnect your boot, and your should be good.
