Any Current or former Loram employees?

I am taking a wild guess here but I believe there are more than a few people here who are gun owners. Just a note that if you have ever wanted to learn how to maintain your weapon or just what makes your 1911 hiccup once in a while, "Lassen Jr. College" in Susanville Ca. has one week armorer type schools during the summer. These are INEXPENSIVE!!! NRA and POST approved classes. Most are 5 day classes, one jr. college unit of credit, $24 for the class. You can stay on campus in their dorm for about $20 a day. I live in Southern Ca. so the biggest expense for me was the fuel to get there. They SHOULD give you a list of tools you will need to bring and depending on your penchant for tools this can get expensive. ($400 if you go wild). In most of the classes there are usually guys with the really expensive tools who will let you borrow them. After that it's food. What makes these classes worth while is the fact they are NOT just "take it apart and put it back together" type armorer schoools. They are taught from a "gunsmithing" perspective meaning you will learn the basic theory behind what makes your gun go bang and what to look for if it don't go bang. And more importantly, how to make sure it does go bang when you really need it to and to not go bang when you really don't want it to. The basic armorer class starts with how to properly use a screwdriver so true novices will not be left behind. They have a large selection of classes, from single action pistols, double actions pistols, revolvers, engraving, rifles, machinegun, accurinzing sniper rifles, cowboy action weapons, shotguns, basic machine shop, parkerizing, blueing, and at night there is usually a knife making class you can take. Why am I pushing the school? I have been a police armorer/range instructor for the last 15 years. I truly believe in this school. It is the ONLY GUNSMITHING SHCOOL IN CA. AND IT IS ON A PUBLIC SCHOOL CAMPUS. It needs to be supported because I am sure Boxer, Feinstein, "Ahnold" and Pelosi would love to close it down. I believe there are only 3 gunsmithing schools west of the Mississippi. I only started going to this school about 4 yrs ago. It is the best training I have ever gotten on weapons. The instructors are excellent and will go out of their way to make sure you learn as long as you ask questions. Bring your problem/broken guns and make them well. Instructors like Bob Chavez are literally walking encyclopedias on guns and can answer ALL your questions. Check out their web site, call the school and ask for their summer NRA school flyer. Sometimes they are a little tardy in getting their info out so keep bugging them. Hope to see you there.

Great post!

Oh, are the political forums still closed to non-members?

If not, I have never owned a gun, never seen a gun, and despise them completely, Mr. Obama.

Absolutely. A model 35 as of this moment. Dr. Glock was a genius as far as I am concerned. The KISS principle reveals this. I used to carry a Sig 226 (and still think Sig is still one of the premier weapons out there) but I always carried my duty weapon off duty. This was because I learned a long time ago if I had to use it off duty and I had an "oops", I wanted to make sure the city I worked for felt duly compelled to attend the lawsuit party to protect "their" gun and "their" ammo. Since Sig has a long first trigger pull I have seen some officers, due to anticipation, hit VERY low on their first round in a stressful situation but then get back on target for rounds 2 thur 15. After getting used to the first Glock I bought, I quickly noticed the first trigger pull was the same as the last due to the gun being a striker fired style weapon. Plus, there is no exposed hammer to get caught up on when pulling it out from a concealed carry. Other than some magazine sping problems Glock has experienced, I think its a great weaon. "Perfection" no, but a great weapon, yes, one you can definately count on. By the way, if you take the Glock armorer school, your Glock certification needs to be renewed by Glock every so many years to stay current for "legal" reasons. If you take the POST NRA law enforcement double action handgun class a Lassen, which includes Glock, it is for LIFE. And, you don't have to be LE to attend the class.

Mr. St. Laurent, I am somewhat fumble minded when it comes to computers. My computer says "Jray" has a message for me but at the same time says it is treating it as a "popup" and has blocked it. Anyway around this or to let Jray know I am not being rude, I just can't seem to get there from here?

Outstanding information

Thanks for the post. However, I cant afford to move to California;), to go to school!

I would like to take some classes, but that would probably be in Trinidad. Thats the best I can do, for now! GregH

GregH, all I can say is amen. Great vs. from Isaiah. We are going to be studying Isaiah this year in our mens Bible Study Fellowship. I am looking forward to it. Remember, you don't have to move to Ca. , just plan a weeks vacation. LOTS of lakes for fishing nearby, we had three guys from LAPD's crime lab in one class I took this year. EVERY day after class they went fishing, either in the stream that runs thru the town or at on of the lakes. There are always a few people from out of state taking these classes. Some guys stay in pop up trailers or tents in the open areas around the school. A little warm but definately the cheapest way to go. There was a school teacher from eastern Nevada who spent the entire summer in his tent this year taking a bunch of the classes. I heard he does this every year. Trinidad sounds interesting.

GLACK, As I understand it, the Trinidad classes were started by P. O. Ackley!

I went the Colorado School of Trades, back in the early 1970's. I should have continued on at Trinidad, but got sidetracked by the necessity of making a living. Lassen sounds like the school to attend for design, function and repair. Trinidad has some well known shooter/gunsmiths on their staff. like German Salazar. However, I would have to camp out there, also as it it so far to commute.

I was interested in an LE career, early on. I applied fo the Colorado State Patrol, back in 1973. They turned me down because of height restrictions in place at the time. I am 5'7" and they required 5'9". I told them that I was taller before I went into the Corps, but I got pounded down humping a pack and an AN-PRC-25 radio:-laf. They wouldn't reconsider:rolleyes:. Greg

PS. GLACK, I'm glad you are involved with a Bible Study. Spiritual discernment is in short supply, these days! May GOD Bless you! GregH
