Charleston SC Smog rules??

Here ya go......

this particular ISC is in one of my trucks, a M936 6x6 5-ton Wrecker.

the engine is the turbocharged one and I cannot remember what injector pump is on it, but the data plate has the engine rated at a measily 237hp. This truck is a dog, I have to put it into low transfer when starting up a hill (it has a 5 spd allison auto) and can bairley tow a hummer. it is embarrassing :{

when I drove to to Gulf Port Miss. in support of the clean-up for Katrina I changed the air filter and fuel filter, but that made no difference. This is the first truck I have drove that a Yugo only fireing on 2 cylinders could outrun. :eek:

so guys, is this injector pump similar to the P7100 with adjustments? I can tell it needs a bit more timeing advance and a touch more fuel then this thing will scream.

I believe most of the military trucks were governed. Find yourself an old army mechanic and he'll tell ya how to turn that puppy up! ;)

Most of the older National Guard equipment is not governed, I know this series of truck isn't. I'm just trying to improve towing ability, I dont care much about top speed.

The old guys around here dont mess with the pumps, even the injector pump guru here at the shop I work at (Combined Support Maintenance Shop) doesnt see these pumps. I guess they are that good. I kinda wish I could get the old Cummins 250, that right there was a pulling monster

been doing some research and I think the pump on these trucks is the beloved P7100. . . it looks the same as the P7100 on the 5. 9 but I was unsure if the internals were different or what. gunna have to crack this thing open to find out :D

hopefully I'll have the fastest wrecker there is

I think you may be using the wrong nomenclature on that engine. The ISC is electronic?If it is an 8. 3 mechanicle it could have the p7100 which can be played with very easily just watch the egts on a heavy rig.

yup, after some searching I was wrong in calling it an ISC. it is the 8. 3L, probably something like the 6CTA.

Ive been told that in the past people have played with the pumps and only gained minimal returns. I'm wondering if they tried grinding the fuel plate.

one more thing, I believe the truck weighs in at around 21,000. with the boom on the back I would bump that to around 26-27,000 pounds.

Large hp and torque can be gained But you must drive by the Pyro Oo.

and the one thing that is holding me back from realy climbing into it is that I doubt the military would want to buy a larger turbo for this thing :rolleyes:
