Has anyone done a comparison between 2500 series Turbo Diesels, 3500 Single rear wheel Turbo Diesels and 3500 dual rear wheel Turbo Diesels as to payload and towing capacity? How much more payload and or trailer weight can you handle with a DRW over a SRW? How much more payload and trailer weight will the one ton pull over the 3/4 ton? I am specifically looking at 2006 and 2007 pickups.
I have a great 2007QC, 5.9 Cummins 2500 4X4. It has a max GVWR of 9000# and CombinedGVWR of 20,000#. How much more is the 3500 SRW and DRW rated for? I am thinking of getting a one ton of the same vintage and need to know the capabilities. Technically, my truck with fuel, etc. weighs in at 7930# giving me a payload of just over 1000#. That's not much. Any comments?

The best place and the most accurate is the Ram Body Builder's guide. This is a down loadable PDF from Ram that anyone can access. I use this all of the time to analyze my needs. Here is the link to the site.
http://www.rambodybuilder.com/year.pdf

You will need to click on the model year, then the Ram icon, style of cab and then under Technical Information the information is listed under base weights/GCVW/payload.

Good Luck

As Jim mention above, the link is the best place to look. I know that my 07.5 mega cab dually only had a spec'd payload of 2600 some #'s and a tow rating of 16,000# which I far exceeded all the time, at least the payload. Where as my 2014 has a payload of 5600# and a tow rating of 28,000#! I don't know why they have the payload so low on the 07.5 model, it has the same axle as the new one but the new one has a little bigger ring gear in it which does nothing for the payload.
