Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) H.o.

What year did the H. O. come out. And is a 00 6spd definitely an h. o. or not? Cause this guy is trying to sell me his and he says it is, but it doesn't feel like on. How can I tell.

The HO started in model year 2001 according to Dodgeram.org and you can look here for where the CPL label is which will tell you which engine it has. If it says 235 hp then it's a SO

If I remember right in 99/00 they made two transmission input shaft sizes for the 6 speed. 1 1/4" and 1 3/8", the 1 3/8 is much stronger. Look at the starter, if you have a 3/4" spacer between the starter and bellhousing then you have the larger shaft.



In the same period they made SO 6speeds & HO 6 speeds.

The HO 6 speed only was available on 01-02 models. The 99-00 year models were SO 235HP with the smaller input shafts.

Also the eighth digit of the VIN with be a 7 if it's HO or a 6 if it's a SO. The 2000 model year (MY) went from July 99 to Jan 00 (short year) and then the 2001 MY started and went to July and then realistically the 2001. 5 MY started but since they are all called 2001 that was a long Model year being a year and a half.
