I just found out tonight that I have an H1C instead of an HX35. What is the boost limit for an H1C turbo? At what point does the turbo become inefficient and make heat? TIA

It's a bit unusual to have a second gen with an H1C on it... .

The H1C is the precursor to the HX's... .

The efficiency/boost figures are a bit lower than the HX's...

If it's a stocker you should look at having it modified to extend it's usable range/boost etc... .

Normally the H1C's had an upper efficiency limit around 28psi (depending on exhaust housing/fuel etc). Much beyond that and they start to produce hot boost air...

'Course, I'm one to talk... I ran mine up into the high 30's and touched on the low 40's for boost... nasty... ;):D

The early 95's automatics had the H1C's on them for some reason. I had one also that was equipped the same and did a check on it and found it out to be correct. Bob is correct about the efficency range... ... . Andy
 
My WH1C has gone though hell and back... . several times.

40+psi on a daily basis was not uncommon... . and it's still tight.



After you go beyond the aforementioned boost range - it's just blowing hot air and not helping you much.

After looking at several websites, I just assumed to have an HX35. Before my timing was advanced (was at 11. 5 stock) I could make about 38 pounds of boost and had "huffed" the turbo two or three times. Now it slows at 30 # and the EGT is only 1000*. Thanks for your responses.
