As promised here are my results on the B1 and a 12 valver. I posted this on the Pias H2 topic as well. Just thought I would chime in with some results on the B1 vs. the Pias Hybrid H2. I ran the H2 with a 12 housing on it. Well both turbo's work pretty darn well the differences I can see are, The H2 costs less and works very good for hot rodding but is a little weak on boost for towing, down about 3 lbs of boost from a Piersified HX 35 with a 16 housing on it. The B1 seems to spool up very nice and runs about the same towing as the before mentioned Piers turbo. Both the H2 and the B1 have been shown to be realiable so far. If you have anymore question fire away.

So which do you like better?

If you had to pick between the B1 and H2 for all around best turbo towing, draging, pullin etc. which would it be.

Assume you want to be able to do about anything and had to pick one turbo to do it with.

inquiring minds want to know.

Well Mark good question, I am still not exactly sure but it might not be either one. I am looking for a turbo that will let me use more of the power I have while towing and neither will do that. I am still looking for a turbo that I can tow with and not be right on the hairy edge of 1300 degrees going up every hill.

Blair . . so without the pull toy which do you prefer . . HUMMMM

given you pull 10/12 times a year and daily drive 365, 1300 isn't to bad if your a 24 Valver 'cause you can turn off a switch or two and lower it a bit:p

BPine--there may never be one single turbo to accomplish what you, I and a zillion others want---not even sure twins can do it ---but let's just say if you had to choose one, which one would you choose--if money wasn't an issue..... and if money was an issue would you pick the H2 or would it be smart to save up and get the B1... . you may want to test it more before you make your final response----glad to hear you're testing it---

chris

Well Gary I would say the B1 would have to get the nod if I was going to pick one. It works very well for Hot rodding and at least doesn't hurt when towing. What do you mean 10 or 12 times a year!!! I try to use my trailer more than that, shoot there are more than 12 races a year that I must attend. LOL

Chris you are right I need more time to get a better feeling for B1 but you are probably right there is no single turbo that is going to be the best of both worlds and I am not sure I want to listen to twins for the long haul with the trailer.

Blair, get Pius to build you a H2 with about a 16 or 17 cm2 housing and either the stock size H2 turbine wheel or one between the HX40 and H2 sizes.

Joe I've done that. It doesn't work well for pulling a heavy trailer. Its about the efficiancy of the exhaust housing and rpm. You have to remember a looser ex housing will give you less back pressure which is good for max power and high rpm. Not good for responce and towing.

another thing to consider fellas, you can send me cores. Hx 35's and h2e's. Both will take off considerable amounts of $$$ over the B1 as if the 500+ wasn't enough.

R. ebel I haven't tried one of those yet, I did try a standard HX-40 but I blew it up before I got to really try it. At first it didn't work very well with the trailer but I didn't have the waste gate set up properly. If you set it up to have 45 psi empty it won't build enough boost in the mid range for towing but there is a way around it.

Rebel:

I just purchased a B-1 Turbo from Kurt. Just got it

on my truck this past weekend. Prior to that, I had

Piers' Modified HX-40/16. I haven't finished with

all my "testing" yet, but as soon as I do I will post

my results for you!! My initial opinion of this B-1

is that it is a very good turbo for almost all areas

of need, however, I haven't had a chance to tow

my racing trailer with it yet.

Will post more later!

Turbo's

John_P,

I'll be looking forward to your posting of the B1/PDR HX40 comparison:D

I've currently got a PDR modified HX35-16 which works great in terms of spool up but I would like to lower my high altitude EGT towing temps. Currently I'm somewhere between 350-370hp but would like to break the 400HP barrier and still keep the EGT's manageable for Rocky Mtn type towing:D

And just when you thought you had the turbo stuff all figured out... ... . Heres comes the AT-4 from Kurt.

I hope to have back to back dragstrip comparision on April 18th. I already "proved" the B1 can be used at the strip... . so now its time to beat on the AT-4 which is supposed to be faster.

I prolly should have jsut kept quite and surprised ya with it in Tulsa. But I couldn't resist. I hope to run it back to back with the B1 turbo on April 18th.

The only part I am bummed about is I don't think I will be able to put in my new transmission stuff in time (93% race TC, cryo'ed shafts, etc).....

Got the TC today. Give me a call.

When? Tommorrow?

Its not a question of getting it in time... . its a matter of having the time to install it all... (I'm working 6 days a week next 2 weeks).

That's exactly what I'm looking for as well BPINE!

Now when is PIERS going to get the Holset VGT up and running:cool:? I believe you need a source of on board compressed air to control the VGT, a control stategy should be pretty easy to figure out..... I've already got a few ideas of my own:D
