had 1993 fuel pump taken off reset $500.00

had local shop take my 1993 rotary
pump off , they would not let me watch
put on a machine , they had big storys
on how good it will run, they test drove it
1st but said nothing , i told them pump
was turned up, prior to my ownership
but did not know amount or if it was correct, they charged me $500. 00 said it took 7 hours, when done they only thing
i noticed was that they had truned up boost
on banks gate a little. i know they
did something to the pump. just dont know if i was TAKEN or not. i also asked them
to chk timing , they did and said it was ok
same with valves. they tried to chg me
110. 00 for valve adv, when others were
chargeing 55. 00 i got them to drop some on that. the work was done 1 year ago. i just
bugs me that since my pump was turned up
already, there work r and r and test
and adjust really did not improve things
the shop is a well known valley shop
that knows these pumps , bill

they drove it 1 st
and still said , they could do wonders

Oh boy were you. I would ask for my money back. First, the adjustments can be done with the pump still on. Second, it should have only been about that to REBUILD the pump, not just take it off and fiddle with it. I know a guy that will rebuild the pump for $400 MAX (if it needs a total overhaul) in Sikeston MO. Only replaces what is needed, and does a lot of work for Cummins Gateway when they get overflowed. Took my injectors there, and got them taken apart, cleaned, recalibrated and new sealing washers for $100. They look and perform like new. My VE pump, with stock injectors and 18. 5 turbo, will push 21-22 psi empty. I have no doubt it will top 30 with PW injectors.

AS for being taken, welcome to the club. That is why I always do my own work, and refuse to patronize shops that are vague or will not let me see their shop. Some will try to hide behind insurance regs, but the good ones will let you in quick if you ask firmly. If they are vague (ever hear of DR Performance?), I run out the door, and dont return
