I was installing an HX40 on my truck the other day,to replace the HY. I layed the two turbos beside eachother and noticed that the housing on the in coming side were the same size, but the HY had a restrictor retained by a snap-ring,when I pulled the restrictor out the incoming housings were exactally the same size. My question is what would happen if I had left the small turbo on and just removed the restrictor plate. I was getting 30lbs of boost with the HY could I have gotten more out of the HY by removing this restrictor plate.

The restrictor is called a silencer ring, it's purpose is to reduce turbo "whine". I get 35 psi out of my HY35, with 275 injectors and edge comp box. The waste gate is blocked and ring removed.
