Anyone Heard Of

Engine in, twins mounted

What's everyone running? What's the best brand?:confused:

I thought all the green stuff was about the same.



What brand has low silicate (blended for diesel engines) TDR #44 page 78?

When you guys switched, did you completely wash out your system before you installed your new antifreeze?



I know that some brands don't mix and actually clog things up when mixed.

DHayden, don't get that purdy blue mixed up with washer fluid:) .

Lowell, I did a complete flush and fill, bought the kit from parts store, simple job, then you can have the tee inline in your heater hose, for when you want to flush and fill again. I run in three trucks Prestone dex-cool 5 yr/150k mi I think is the name, more of a orange red color.

What brand has low silicate
Use a ethylene glycol based antifreeze not a propylene glycol I think it the other type, dont use it. Read on the back of the jug, ingredients contexts etc, it should say ethylene or propylene glycol... Bill
 
I drained mine and flushed it out, then I filled it with water and drove 100 or so miles with it. Then I flushed again and filled with water and did the same thing, then I drained it and flushed it until crystal clear water came out the I refilled with the Zerex and water. To get the system really clean you'll have to do it yourself, not many places would take the time to do it thoroughly.

To get a very good flush-out unclamp & remove all of the hoses. Let them drain; also drain the radiator with the little turn&pull plug down in the corner. Then use a garden hose with a spray nozzle to flush out the heater core, the upper radiator hose, the lower radiator hose, and the radiator. This will get just about all of the old stuff out of the heating system, the block, and the radiator. Then get some compressed air (20-30 psi is all you need) and blow out the excess water. Use a towel to keep a tighter seal between the hoses and the smaller air nozzle. Then refill with your choice of coolant and distilled water. Using a high-milage coolant will allow more time driving and less time changing out the coolant mixture over the following 100K-150K miles. :)
 
I just changed to Fleetguard ES Compleat Propylene glycol (had G-05 in it from the factory). No complaints. You can read my sad, sad story here. :rolleyes:
 
Just changed mine out yesterday... drained the radiator through the petcock, took off the heater hose and put on a short piece of hose with a female hose connection on it and flushed evrything until I got good clean water... . installed a new 190 degree thermostat and refilled with Fleetguard ES complete PG.



Couldn't get the lower radiator hose off to really drain everything... . that baby is on there!!



Only got 4 gallons in, including filling the over flow bottle to the full line. .

Took it for a short drive and the over flow level never changed.
