So with looking for a 24V, many of you suggested scanning it to look for codes over and above just the ignition flashing with the key.

So question then, what is a good aftermarket scanner that will scan for engine codes for the 24v and may as well be sure it scans newer trucks as well? Never know when someone in the Ontario TDR will need to scan their truck, so it may as well be compatible with the newer trucks too.

So what is a good brand, what is a decent price range to be in (hoping not multi hundred $$$) and maybe even the model number and where to buy it?

Thanks!

Actron makes several, and most of them are posted on amazon with a link from their web sight to several distributors. . autozone, sears, napa, motion etc...

I'm personally looking at one of their new ones... CP9190 Kit... I own several vehicles and have found this one on Amazon for around $272, however I've not made a buying decision as I still wish to know more about the difference in features from the $50 one to the $272 one...

I googled "vehicle engine scanners" or "vehicle code readers" and got lots of hits...

I'd like to hear others thoughts...

The automotive writer in our local paper likes the Autel brand for professional use. He recommended their AutoLink model AL309 for the do it yourself mechanic. I purchased one a few months ago and it seems to work fine for what I need. It reads and erases codes and you can also view live and freeze frame data. It says it supports CAN and all other OBDII systems. I think I paid about $70. for it, but I see that etoolcart.com has it for $60 now.
