Happy B-Day vssman

Alright, I'll bet there are alot of our members out there this morning that are hung over and could use some help. Besides from abstaining from alcohol, what are some of our home remedy cures for the all too common hangover? Thanks Don

The best hangover cure hands down, bar none, is Pedialite. Case closed, end of story, period.

Yes, Pedialite. The stuff you give babys and little kids when they're sick. It replenishes your system with electrolytes and all the other stuff that the alcohol burns out. It is a little spendy though, $5. 99 for 32 ounces, but comes in several flavors like grape, citrus, or it you prefer, unflavored. Its best chilled, straight out of the bottle, or on the rocks.

Next time you plan a hard night out on the town, grab a bottle before hand and have it for breakfast the morning after. Just sip on it till you hangover is gone.

Enjoy.

Hangovers are primarily a side effect of dehydration, that is why the pedialite works. Gatorade will do the same. An IV with 500 cc's Normal Saline would do the trick for most, maybe 1000 for you bigger guys. If you can handle it, down about 6 large glasses of water when you get home and it should reduce the hangover in the morning. Or if you are really smart, drink a glass of water for every alcoholic drink and you will avoid it plus pay less cause you won't drink as much. Some friends from school used to start saline locks on them selves before they headed out for the evening, get home, hang the bag of fluids and the next morning would wake up feeling fine. Of course that is just an observation of what they did, I am not endorsing it.

A friend in college used to chug 1 full glass of water before bed. Said that almost always prevented the hangover. Seems consistent with what Cowboy Medic said.

Heh, and all this time I thought greasy food was the cure!

BC powder and a big ol glass of water chased by a Whataburger breakfast taquito works for me.

1 full glass of water before bed.

Yep. That has been working for me. Also sometimes I take 2 asprin as well.

Also a glass of water during the evening, or extra ice if drinking mixed drinks.

I have a bit of experience in this area.

Here's what I have witnessed work the best:

Like Cowboy Medic said - saline IV... although this is a bit hard for the non BLS/ALS crowd. I even saw the saline IV/oxygen (nasal cannula) treatment done before. That guy was good as new in about an hour (... this was the 'morning after' he drank... ). I'll dispel any rumors beforehand... I never had it done... . :)

I have had good luck with drinking LOTS of water... . and a vitamin/acetometaphin (... or other mild OTC pain killer like Aleve) cocktail BEFORE adjourning (passing out... ) in bed (... or wherever you end up! :) ).

Drinking water in-between drinks makes getting rid of your 'rented' beer even more time consuming.

There is also a lot to be said about never stopping your alcohol intake. :-laf This is very unhealthy and impractical... . but highly effective.

Funny story time!

I remember explaining to a state police officer (while I was sober... and showing her how to work a piece of video editing equipment... . :) ) that I can see why (mostly younger... . ) folks binge drink.

Our lives are busier than ever before... . everything must be 'right-here-right-now'. In an effort to reduce the 'mean-time-before-inebriation' ("MTBI") - folks will go to insane lengths to get this time down to a minimum. (Ice luge (sp?), bottle rockets, funnels, case races, power hours... .come to mind. :D ) Everything in life is so rushed that we don't even have time to get liquored at a leisurely pace...

She was pretty upset with me to say the least - but I think she caught my logic. :-laf

I used to know a guy who insisted the best cure was to drink a Red Eye in the morning.

A Red Eye is a Bloody Mary with a raw egg floating in it.

A friend of mine tried it once.

He drank the Red Eye, threw up, and felt better.

"He drank the Red Eye, threw up, and felt better."

I forgot about that 'hangover cure'. :)

I had a few heavy-drinker girlfriends in college that would do a similar 'binge-n-purge' method.

When they'd suggest it to my buddies and I - I'd decline and say that nature would take it's own course without my intervention. :-laf

It really comes down to the liver's ability to oxidize the alcohol... some people have better livers than others in that respect.

It has very little to do with body mass or 'experience' :) .

All of the home remedies mentioned thus far just treat the symptoms after the fact. We just need to find a way to BOMB our livers and we'll be all set.

twin-turbo liver?

I think I'd have better luck making a turbojet... . and running it off the natural (_ss) gas. :-laf

Bystander: "How many pounds of thrust does that thing make?"

Me: "Well, it depends on what I ate for lunch..... Burger King's onion rings are good for 4500lbs... and I have been afraid to test any Taco Bell food for fear of an explosion. "

Matt

HEMI: You have a good point. What could be causing this?

I don't think it is related to physical health - as I have been my 'big boned' self my whole life. Perhaps it is related to the 'Mean-Time-Between-Enebriating-Events' or 'MTBEE'. :-laf

Back in college it was a once (or more... ) a week occasion to get into a situation where I could end up with a hangover. I don't drink more than a beer or 5 at a time now... . and the hangovers are MUCH worse.

I will agree with you on that. Don't drink no more so I don't have that problem anymore.

B12 and water

I take B12 before going out for the drinking, a big glass of water before sacking out. Then a big glass of water and a few more B12 when I get up in the morning.

No headache to report... . nice to be up and about when everyone else is running a little slow. :D
