New Dexter

to heavy? safe? legal?

I just brought home my brand new left over 2006 Fleetwood Wildcat tt. I got one heck of a deal on it, and this thing is loaded !!! Some of the options are, 7 speaker surround, subwoofer in ceiling, dvd, mp3, compact disc, jpg viewer, dolby digital. The interior is drop dead beautiful, glass surround shower, nickle hardware finish, stainless fridge front, opening in counter top for trash that is removed through outside door, black tank flush, water filtration system, and more .

Enough, I'll get to the questions.

First..... my old Equal-i-zer hitch is rated for 10,000lbs. The GVWR is 10,660lbs. . The UVW is 6,660. The dealer say the rating is not enough, I say it is. What say you? It holds 40 gal. water and I'm not packing this thing full of stuff.

Second... Satellite tv input to the tt. dealer says I can't use the cable jack because it runs through a signal booster. I say hogwash, don't turn the booster on. Any thoughts on this?

Thanks G. H.

Wildcat

Hi G. H. - I have a Wildcat, and it's been good. First thing I'd do , though, is buy the extended warranty from Forest River. You can get an extra year for $100 from the dealer, which they don't always tell you about. Mine is a fiver, so I don't know much about equalizers. My main problem has been with the hydraulic landing gear... . don't know if a TT has the hydraulic setup. If you do, keep your eye on it. All in all, we really have enjoyed our Wildcat. Hope yours treats you right ! Bruce

Hi Bruce, yes i got the warranty. I got one for six years. The only thing that is hydraulic is the slide. Thats all new to me too. Never had a slide before. I gonna load her up this weekend, and take her out next weekend, and learn all the new stuff, like how to turn the radio on!! LOL. . G. H.

The satellite won't work through the booster, when its turned off there is no connection there. I had to make a bypass on my older trailer to use sat TV. Lots of info on how to do that on rv.net.

As far as the hitch goes... my opinion is better to be safe than sorry but thats your call.

I believe the hitch on the truck is only rated for 10000lbs. If the Equalizer is too light according to your rv dealer then you'd better upgrade the hitch too! I think you're OK with your present 10k hitch... those hitch are built well.
