I just completed a auto to NV4500 conversion about 2-3 weeks ago. I had an NV4500 rebuilt by a reputable transmission shop here in Pittsburgh Pa that has worked on them before. I used mostly new parts, new master/slave, new clutch, pressure plate, throwout bearing etc... . I am having trouble shifting into 1st and 3rd. I rarely ever use 1st. For 3rd gear it seems like it doesn't shift smoothly from 2nd to 3rd. Sometimes I hear a slight grind. I used fluid straight from the Dodge dealer with the correct part number. Could it be just fluid, should I try Amsoil or is it something else. Thanks Pete

Mine does that also it has since I have owned it (about 50,000 miles). It seems to do it more when it is very cold out after driving for about 10 minutes I dont have any problems. I am also using the mopar synthetic fluid.

Thanks. I talked to few others and it seems it is common with them too. It is really cold here so I guess I should expect it. Thanks for the info. Pete

Pete,

Mine would grind going into 3rd when I first did my conversion, too. It has since pretty much quit the grinding when shifting from 2nd into 3rd but it still grinds like crazy when I downshift from 4th to 3rd unless I go to 2nd first, then 3rd or if I down-shift at @ 25 mph or lower. I was running the Syntorq but now have the Amsoil in it. No really noticeable difference.

Thanks, I was thinking of changing the fluid but I'll just leave it go for now. I figured it was noraml, just wanted to make sure. I only have about 600 miles on it. Thanks Pete
