Hard startt after it's been running. ?

My truck starts almost instantly first thing every morning and after being shut down for several hours. It starts hard if I run to the store go in for an hour or so and come back out. It always starts though but after many revolutions. I am wondering why it does this after it is all warmed up, but not when it has sat all night or for several hours. This is a fairly new problem. It used to start instantly all the time. Fuel solenoid pulls up all the way, and I don't see any obvious leaks. Thanks a bunch for any suggestions.

That's a new one for me. Have the outside temps been low enough that the intake heater should have come on but didn't? Could be your intake temp sensor isn't reading in the marginal temps right but does when the temp drops lower. All this is just a guess. If you haven't replaced your rubber fuel hoses you should just to eliminate them from the equation. Leaks in them can behave differently in different temps.

Shutdown solenoid problem due to worn starter contacts would have been my first guess but it sounds like you have eliminated that.

Thanks for the reply Illflem. It has been very warm here lately, sixtys. I have not replaced my fuel lines yet. I've heard this is a pain ITA . How much of a job is this, and is there anything written up about how to do it any where? thanks.

j, you got that right, it's probably one of the most PITA jobs on our trucks, at least the parts are cheap. On your '94 removing the fuel filter, the two nuts holding the brake booster and swinging it out of the way makes it possible from the top. Some folks prefer from the bottom by removing the starter. Either way will make you swear. I find easier to just cut the upper clamps off from above. You will need less than 2' each of 5/16" and 3/8" diesel rated hose and some clamps. Dealer charges about $120 to replace one hose.

We had an old Mercedes 190D that would start fine when cold, but was very hard starting when hot. The problem was that is was just plain worn out and didn't have enough compression.

Sometimes the battery would run down before it would start. Towing it a little ways would start it right up.
