Replacing injection pump

Uh oh lost a bolt in the engine. What to do

I pulled the front cover to kill the pin. While there I noticed a crack in my pump gear. I replaced the gear, crank seal and put her back together. At the same time I scored a 93 rad support and intercooler.

Long story short- All back together had to crack her over for while, when she finally started alot of white smoke. Under hard throttle smoke is still pretty white

I turned the pump up a while back and ground the fuel pin but she ran great before this last project.

Any help would be great.

White smoke is "unburned" fuel as opposed to Black which is "Incomlpete" burned. That points to retarded timing. Could be you got one or more teeth off when you reassembled your pump drive and or idler gear. Or check that the woodruff key is properly in on the pump shaft. If it was running good before you took it apart, eliminate all the things that could have gone wrong then, before backtracking to something else.

Help

NOBODY ELSE HAS ANY INPUT ON THIS.

I am going to try to advance the pump today, any tricks (custom made wrenches or so) to help get the job done.

I have input, but my help is worth 75. 00 per hour. I don't answer all the questions I read.

I'll tell you this. I went over a pump for a guy and he installed it wrong. Timing was WAY off. He found that he did not take care enough to install the pump key into the gear and had the exact symptoms you describe.

(You would like the Snap-On wrench SP-44)

"Everything was fine before" he said, and simply assumed I did something wrong inside the pump... ... ... ... ...

You may also want to check the timing of/on the gear teeth.

Hey, your welcome! I guess since "NOBODY ELSE" backed my play maybe you'll listen.

I agree that it sounds like the pump timing is off.

Makes it unanimous.

I have one and it's still a virgin. ;)

timming

I loosened the pump and while turning the pump I busted the line that goes from the pump to the shutoff solonoid. So I figured I should find a pump shop, So that I can buy some parts. Maybe a set of gov springs while I am at it.

Thanks for all the help, The TDR always comes through.

pump shop

Precision diesel in west Bablon NY. Bosch certified dealer and repair shop.

I ordered the broken piece and the seals. I also ordered the plunger return springs.

Only thing I forgot to order was the gov springs.

Again thanks for the help.
