I have a 2001 2500 Dodge w/ the 24v Cummins in it. After getting in a wreck and having the repair work done to the passenger front corner the truck began starting differently (not firing up as fast as it used to). I would like to investigate whether the fuel grid heaters are functioning. Does anyone have instructions or pictures that would show how and where to service/investigate/replace the grid heaters? Also in reading on the web I found information that stated that the grid heaters do not operate above 60F (and that is the temperatures we are seeing this time of year? ? Any input would be appreciated

TJ, from what I"ve read here most hard starting issues are caused by air being introduced into the fuel supply lines and/or return lines. Check all connections to and from the tank to the VP. If I remember correctly, the grids kick on at 57 degrees and will cycle until you hit 18mph. You can tell if they're working because they draw alot of juice, watch your volt meter it will get drawn way down for 5 sec. or so then stop, you'll also hear the engine labor slightly when they kick on. Could also be your lift pump, lots of info on that, do a search. Hope this helps.

the grid heater relays in the 2001 are on the driver side fender well under the battery, not likeley that they are bad if the passenger side was where the damage was. Like the others said, try the lift pump, and get a fuel guage on it to see what it's doing.
