The wife's 01 is having starting trouble after its warmed up.

Fires right off cold but once its warmed up requires multipul key turns to get started then runs fine again till shut off then same thing cranks, but wont start.

Changed out one of the batteries. retightened all the grounds. checked and tweeked all the fuel fittings. Has 15 psi fuel pressure before startup and at idle.

Codes are 1693 and 1765 The truck has an edge juice and an upgraded auto trans. See sig.

also tried changing the fuel pump relay and even jumpering the relay socket with no change in symptoms.

Is her VP44 going south? Help Help Im stumped

Have you had the ECM flashed so the LP only runs for about 5 seconds when the key is turned on? This is a typical problem with the VP44 that gets worse with age, it doesn't like a lot of LP pressure on startup.

Just sayin... . had the same problem, kinda ticked me off, I found that #3 injector nut at the head was loose. Tightened it, and no more problems. Probably a isolated incident for me, but something to look into. Did you have you ever had a bad load of fuel recently? Might wanna look into that if your answer was yes.

J

How did you find the loose injector nut? Was it leaking or did you just start checking them. I dont have any leaks but WTF.

I tried disconnecting power to the LP and it started 10 out of 10 tries. Then I used the Smarty from my other truck to check the codes and found the 216 VP death code that did not show up when I did the 3 key turn thing.

Ill take to Advance Diesel Thursday and get the pumps changed out. I hate working on my truck in the cold. Those dang VPs never seem to faill in the summer.

Thanks for the tips.

I was having a hard start issue after the truck started warming up. I first checked all my electrical connections, followed by the inline filter to my FASS to make sure it wasnt bad. Then I started at the tank and worked fore looking at all the supply/return lines. When I finally got up to #3, I noticed it was loose, but there wasnt any evidence of fuel leakage. Incidently enough, after tightening it, my hard start issue went away. Permantly.

Thanks For the tip J

I wentahead and checked every fuel and wire connection. couldn't find anything loose or leaking. I was advised by a diesel shop guy to try and deenergize the LP and see if it would start and it did. I guess somthing in the VP becomes pressure sensitive with age.

And I found the 216 code. So I guess its new VP time.
