I'm plagued with an intermittant starting problem because of no fuel. I took it to my dealer and he replaced the lift pump and reflashed for cold weather stating problems. Still happened.

I checked the fuel lines and fittings for leaks. Nada. Then I noticed that sometimes when I turn the ignition switch on the lift pump doesn't power up. I checked with a pressure gauge and no fuel pressure until after the engine starts then I read 15 psi.

Question, is the on/off control for the lift pump signaled by the ECU or is there a seperate relay from the ignition switch. Do I need a new ECU?

I have an Edge box on the unit.

Any one able to help me with this problem? Thanks.

Tom

Did you bump the starter?

You should have fuel pressure after bumping starter, you won't always get pressure just by turning the ignition on.

It would be nice to know what truck you have ,add a signature. First the lift pump will pump for a few seconds with a turn of the key to just before the start position ,then stop. After the key is turned some more the pump will if working pump for 26 seconds if you just bumped the starter. You will hear it run ,but this is not a sure way to know if it is pumping . Some run but do not pump . The Injector pump will some times suck fuel a seem to run fine for some time . The injector pump needs extra fuel to lube and cool it in operation . Suggest a fuel pressure gauge full time setup so you will know if pump is working or not . Ron in Metro Louisville KY:confused:   :D

When I first turn my key my lift pump will run until my gage hits 15 psi. It shuts off and then will run again after I fire the truck off.

There is a relay in the power distribution box under the hood on the drivers side. Take the cover off and look under the cover for the location of the relay.

Mine went intermittent on me and I had to replace, no more problems.
