does any body know what could cause hard starting in the morning?

some mornings i will get in my truck and it will take me 5min to get it started.

but sometimes it will start right up:confused:

any help would be great.

Try using the manual button on the lift pump and see if that helps starting. If it does then you have a leak down somewhere. As Jim says, it's probably the overflow valve or fuel hoses. If you haven't replaced the fuel hoses you should do it. They are going to leak eventually if they are not already. The hoses are cheap. The job is a PITA. Make sure they are diesel rated fuel hose. The overflow valve is expensive. The job is easy.

before pulling any parts off. the next time it wont start after cranking, leave the key on and get under the hood to see if the fuel shutoff solenoid is pulled up. if its not there's your problem. either a relay or starter contacts going bad.

the overflow valve is on the pump near the front on the engine side. you will see a fuel line coming to the pump and attaching to the pump with what looks like a Banjo bolt. that fitting is actually the overflow valve.

you are probably loosing prime and should check things out for that. but it wont hurt to check the shut off solenoid first.
