Hello,

My cousin has a 2000 2wd auto, about 290,000 on the odometer. It cranks perfect when cold, but when hot, it will turn over forever before firing, some times not at all. Runs great once cranked, but will miss a little when revved hard at idle, but not while driving.

I worked on it some last week, checking stuff out, no codes except turbo overboost(forget number). Fuel pressure seems to be fine, wont go below 11-12 psi under heavy throttle. Funny thing is, I drove it everywhere, tried cranking it cold/hot even in between; nothing  . I did find a dead battery, so I replaced both of them. Cranked great. I let him have it back, and he pulls a trailer about 40 miles and it acts up again. It seems to do it worse when worked hard towing or something?

My cousin has asked someone, and they keep coming back with something about a fuel shutoff solenoid  Of all the stuff I've heard about them giving problems on 12v's I've never heard of one on a 24v? Is there? I didn't think there was, but I could be wrong.

Sorry for long post, but looking for ideas. Thanks

Steven

No shut down solinoid on 24v, he needs to keep an eye on FP. Also did you clean up all your grounds and connections, voltage issues can cause hard start and engine miss at times. Does he have a comp? If so unplug it and run it. Hope this points you in the right direction.

I didn't think they did, I told him if he bought it; then I would put it on(if possible). They could be talking about an overflow valve, but he insisted it was a fuel shutoff solenoid. Said it was under the cover on top of the VP

Truck is completely stock, I checked some, but not all of the grounds. Checked complete system (batt/alt/starter) with the electronic checker at work.

Everything else runs great, speedometer, tach, etc...

Thanks

Steven

Id Be Looking Into An Inj. Pump Mines Doing The Same Thing Starts Before The Starter Turns Clear Over When Cold But When Its Hot It May Crank10 Seconds Or Longer. I Understand The Seals Inside The Vp Start Cracking And Shrinking With Age. I Have 170,000 On This Pump More Than Alot Of Others So I Guess I Cant Complain.

Just thought of crank sensor may have an issue also. I've seen a couple cummins fail when hot. It is best to have a computer hooked up monitor timing when cranking, could be wire or sensor. Like I said not a big failure on Cummins but we do see alot on Detroit Series 60, fail when hot. Just a thought
