Attention: TDR Forum Junkies My best buddy has a '99 24 valve CTD and is having some starting issues. Problem has been giong on for quite some time. Not sure what some of the earlier symptoms were but a repair shop determined his lift pump was bad. He had a BD aftermarket lift pump kit installed. Still didn't start well during cold weather. Had computer reflashed and computer said all systems were working great with no trouble codes. Buddy says that if it is below 25 degrees outside and he has not plugged in the block heater in, his truck will just crank and crank and will not start. If he does plug it in, he says is starts ok. If the temperature is a bit warmer, no block heater, and he does get it started, truck runs real rough with lots of smoke for the first 30 seconds and then clears up. He has not noticed a dimming of the lights in the cab, as indicative of a grid heater cycling on and off, during these starts.
