hard steering

My 95 4x4 is hard (stiff) to steer around town. On the open road its ok but has a little play. The truck has 148000(almost new). Any suggestions on a fix. How do you get the old fluid out?

Mine is too when it's cold. I saw a post a while ago about using a synthetic fluid helps. I'm gonna give it a try.
