Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Hard to get into 1st & 2nd

All of a sudden I cant shift into 1st or 2nd gear at a stop about 75% of the time. Sometimes it goes after 2-3 tries and sometimes I have to shut the truck off then put it in gear and restart it. Southbend Con ofe has about 8k easy miles on it and hasnt slipped. Any suggestions on what it could be?
