Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Hard to start

Hi guys

I got this new problem with my pickup, it's a 1996 12 valve. My starter was going bad on me so I changed it out. Now ever since I changed the starter out my pickup is really difficult to start. It cranks over fine but it acts like it is starving for fuel, it fires and dies three or four time and eventually it starts. something else is I need to push on the fuel peddle now to get it to start which I never had to do before. One other thing as well, now when I shut the ignition off my pickup continues to run for 1 or 2 seconds after the key is turned off.

Do a quick check on the run solenoid. Disconnect the linkage arm, have someone hold the pump lever in the run position and turn it over. If it fires right up, it's the solenoid. I have been through a couple of these, and the relay on the firewall as well.

Pull the solenoid and clean it before you buy another one. Check your connection for good continuity. They are tough and last a good long time. The relay needs to be checked to. You may have to raise the Idle a little.

Don't overlook the small blue wire at driver's battery, positive terminal. Check it real close.
