I'd been wondering if a new 24 valve could beat my stock Harley Heritage Softail from a thirty mile an hour top gear roll-on. Had the chance to find out today on I-595. I beat the Cummins, but I didn't embarass him!

Given the difference in horsepower to weight ratios, even keeping a motorcycle in sight is pretty impressive, especially a torquey V-twin. To my mind, the big question is: Which do you think sounds better, A Harley V-twin or a Cummins diesel? IMHO, great motors, whether they're Harleys, Ducatis, Cummins, or even some rice rockets (I know I'll catch flak for the last... ) all make some great music.

I can beat the Harleys in 4th gear and up. One came close enough beside me when I was in 4th, I could see it was a 74 or 80 chopped but when I got in 5th, it was over. He saluted me! Those guys don't like it!!

Come on now, a stock Fat Boy runs upper 13's in the quarter mile. If the guy was racing, you would know it. I think my truck runs pretty good, but my Deuce will waste it. It does not matter if it is off the line or a roll on.

Will not beat it if there is a head wind. End of story!!!

The guy was trying his best to beat me to a T intersection about half mile up ahead. We were on a 4 lane divided highway - he was behind me in the right lane doing about 50 mph. I heard him gear down and nail it so I dropped to 4th and hit it too! He was beside the bed before my boost was up. He got right beside my window and I was finally gaining a little at the top end of 4th. When I shifted to 5th, he jumped ahead about two foot and when my boost was back up I was pulling away fairly well. We both stayed in it until he saw he didn't have a chance. Harleys are real mean off the line but aren't noted for top end unless they're really pumped. I've beaten several Harleys in the upper gears and I've tuned and raced enough of them to know when they're trying! Craig

Boys,I love my truck but I hate to tell you but there's not a cummins powered Dodge out there that will outrun in any shape way or form my 94 inch shovelhead. But then again you can't pull a horse trailor with a Harley, however they are both great at making the "off" brands look bad #ad

I used to know several Harley mechanics and the one that could build the fastest bikes has a shop in Ft. Collins. He had a Sportster built with the biggest Diche barrels he could get and a wild racing cam and I forgot what carb. I rode that thing and it was LETHAL!! I never liked the wheelie bit, so I didn't run it as hard as he did. It was way faster than any of the rice rockets of that time - mid 70's.

I like my Ram I used to like my motorcycle then along came a dog and now no motorcycle. Moral of the story if you are going to be racing on our American Highways then you better be in a Ram not riding two wheels accidents happen (that is why they are called accidents) Try using the Drag Strip there aren't as many precious obsticles (Children, Cars carrying children and puppies) And no I was not racing the motorcycle just enjoying a pleasant ride in the country (speed not a factor).

I really don't want to put one of these vehicles above the other in compairison, I'm nuts about both of them, but seat of the pants memory tells me the Twin Cam 88 with stage 1 kit would probably take the Cummins up to at least 70 MPH.
I must give Harley credit in one area, You can BOMB away under certain circumstances and the warranty stays GOOD. #ad

"Stock Fat Boy will turn in the 13's". You GOTTA be talkin about eighth mile tracks!!!!! A stock 1340 will dyno anywhere from 52 to 68 horsepower!!! Maybe a BLUEPRINTED stock Harley will turn in the 13's. Naaahhhh!

Do some research before saying nay. Check out the August issue of Cruiser for "proof" of the 13. 97 quarter time. Also, the new bikes are 1450cc.

I can tell you one thing, if it wasnt winter here I would let this truck sit and get my Fat Boy out of the garage. Much beter ride and way faster. If you think your truck can beat this bike you got another thing coming. But dont take me wrong I would not drive any other truck but my cummins.

How do you know if your bike is a DOG??... I mean Hog. If you think racin a Diesel truck might give you a run for your money. . #ad

Come on guys, Hogs are called hogs for a reason. . Leave that racin stuff to the "other" bikes. #ad

The only way to race a diesel is uphill pulling a loaded trailer.
The only way to race a Hog is a 3000 mile cross the country.
A Hog racing a Ram on the highway is like racing a funny car against a Indy car on a drag strip

I think that the last post summed it up nicly! #ad

Hog quicker than Ram. Well... ... DUH!!!

And I have yet to have my Ram lift the front wheels off the ground. I hope it never happens either, cause if it did I TRIED TO BY-PASS THE CUSSING FILTER's gonna break when that heavy motor comes back to the ground.
