Harley purchase need some advice

Not everything. It has almost the exact same riding position as your CB. It's a modern version of the KZ. Some people take the small fairing off and put a round headlight up there. Some guys tour on these, some drag race them, some ride them on tracks, some just cruise around on em - I do all the above. It is a UJM (universal japanese motorcycle).



There are actually quite a few standards out there these days. Suzuki makes the Bandit 1200, Yamaha makes the FZ1, Honda the 919. These are all very close to the CB's, KZ's, etc.

I own a Harley ,'01 electroglide classic ' , personally I think for the money it was an excellent value. I like to ride in comfort and listen to some tunes while out on the road. Big baggers are decieving to look at. They actually handle very well and run very well also. Harley came out with a bike called a ,Streetglide (FLX) , it's a step up from a standard electroglide but with some nice option and a radio. My tour pack on mine I made detachable, so it is almost like having two bikes now. It depends on what you are looking for ,something to jump on a go for a couple hour putt or something you might want to get on and ride all day and not feel completely beat. Good luck in your search, there certainly are a lot of nice bikes out there to choose from.

There are a few differences between the heritage anf the deluxe. The deluxe has the lowest stock seat hight of any harley off the line. It also has smaller saddle bags because of the way the exhaust is stacked on top of each other. If you look at the two bikes at the same time you will notice. The 95 is a stroked 88 and the 103 is stroked and bored. For the 96 the 103 is a stroked 96 and the 110 is sstroked and bored. The six speed came standard on the dyna series bikes in 06 and then changed over to all the bikes in 07 with the 96. It is really not a new transmission though it has been around for a while and has been available under the screamin eagle line. The only change is the design in the way the gears themselves are cut. If you already have a motorcycle licsense I would reccomend renting each for at least one day apiece (or they should let you demo one) because each bike rides alittle different. Hope that helps.

I have to second that. I had a sportster. Never again. I'd rather ride than fix.

Second best advice - buy a BMW. I've had two and they are sweet rides.



Best advice - reconsider and be warm, happy, and dry cruising with your lady friend or dog friend with four wheels and a solid frame around you.

B. M. W. 's are over rated. Dealers are few & far apart. Buy a Harley, you'll love it. I have 2000 road glide with 65,000 miles on it & NO problems. A 2006 Harley street rod, It is as fast as any V-twin cruiser out there. i love both bikes. I belong to the BMWON- BMWOwners News, believe it, they have their problems also. Read Motorcycle CONsumer News, Jap bikes have there share of recalls ,all brands have their share of problems. No bike is perfect, get the one you like & enjoy it. Dave

This being the original question, if you're going to be riding any distance at all the softails just don't have the ride of the touring models (road kings and electra glides). I love the look of the softails, but the ride hurts after a few hundred miles. As far as road handling the road glide is the best because the fairing is frame mounted and the bars aren't buffeted by the wind.



The new Street Glide will be my next bike for sure.

I realize that my post is a little late in the game, but hopefully it will help.



It sounds like you have already made up your mind on a Harley so I will stick with that.



If there is one piece of advice I can give you it is buy what you are passionate about. Read that again and really let it sink in.



I say this because I have owned enough motorcycles to realize that if you ain't in love with the bike, it will sit more than it should. I settled the first couple of times I bought motorcycles. I found that if the weather wasn't just right or I was running behind or whatever the excuse, I would use it to not ride.

Yah, it cost me a metric butt-ton, but now I have to convince myself NOT to ride it. You know things like "well, it is over a foot of snow now, maybe I should take the truck".



Buy what you love and you will be happy. I promise you that!!

Todd T; I purchased an '06 Deluxe in May of '06 in Cobalt Blue and Glacier White, the Glacier White has a blue pearl to it in lieu of the gold peral in the '07's. I have put over 2K miles on the deluxe since May and enjoyed every one. After one season I have found a person really needs bags to truly enjoy the bike. It seemed when my wife and I left for a poker run we would leave early in the morning and needed sweatshirts (at least here in Indiana), then by 10:00 a. m. we needed somewhere to put them. I have also noted the Deluxe's seat does not feel too good on my *****, I suppose you have to spend $800 or $900 on a corbin. If I had it to do over again the only other bike I would consider is the Streetglide. I like this bike because if its smooth "street" looks, the bags, and a RADIO!!! But, I still love my Deluxe. I have thought about getting rid of my Deluxe to get the Streetglide, but the wife says NO. Oh, the larger rear pillion, removable backrest, and all associated pads and hardware ran me about $700. And another word of advice, DONT LET IT LEAVE THE SHOWROOM WITHOUT PIPES!!!! These are big boy toys, and I cannot seem to come up with the money to put pipes on it now. THE BIKE IS JUST THE COVER CHARGE!!!

as you can see from my sig I own 2 harleys at the moment I have owned 6 total very proud of the fact they be made in America. I truly love my road Glide 05 88 Ci five speed I am not a hot roddder and I take long bike trips I prefer to ride as to trailer. both my harleys have been very dependable my super glide had 1 major breakdown in 22000 miles the battery broke and shorted out the electrical system at 21000 miles. My wifes jeep liberty and her last durango both had way more problems before 10000 miles. . My road glide has 4000 miles now with 0 problems. normal maintence. On my Road glide I installed the ultra classic seat and now my wife wants to go on every ride with me should have left the old seat on. Very comfortable for me to very little extras just the trunk was an extra purchase. I have heard that on the new bikes with the 96 CI and the 6 speed that if you stay at 70 mph the bike is not really in a happy place. That 6 speed likes to go fast 80 plus to be in its happy place. on the road glide in 5 th gear 68 -72 mph is the happy place set the electronic cruise turn up the radio and have fun. no special colors or doo dads just a nondescript harley. hope this helps.

Wow! A motorcycle thread on the Dodge list... I like it. I own a BMW K1200RS & a Yamaha FJR 1300. I'm into long distance riding, a really small group among bike owners. This year for the first time in a long time the Harleys out numbered the BMWs on the Three Flags Classic. Honda ALWAYS is the predominant marque .

The Harleys have really made some nice bikes. They are reasonablly fast or can be made real fast with enough $$$, don't leak oil and look terrific. The last Iron Butt had Harleys and some of them finished... . 12,000+ miles in 11 days! One was a sporster!

Buy what your passionate about, ride & enjoy. Welcome to the nutty bike world. There isn't a cure that I know of when you have the wants for a bike. Enjoy.

Well that is the very bike and colors we are looking at and thank you for your review of it.



We were planning to add a better pillion seat, backrest and bags to the deluxe. We sat down at the customization counter and picked out those items already. Now that my truck is sold maybe I can surprise the wife with one for christmas.

From what I hear about the 07's, Harley has already taken care of that. Supposedly, they already sound like a Harley now. I looked at a StreetBob the other day. Man, was it nice. Olive Pearl, and Black. I almost called the wife and told her I'm buying a new bike.

Funny how things work. I did not have a bike for about 10 years but due to a few friends and maybe past midlife crisis :-laf I bought a used road star and because my wife and I liked the scooter we decided to buy a toy hauler thinking we might go south in the winters and the trailer would give us the flexibility to go either east or west at Mobile. Since I never do anything small the next thing I know I have a 37ft 5th wheel and my Hemi 2500 just does not get the job done so I buy a smoker, best thing I ever did. I don't have to take the front end off to change a cam or go buy 3 different intakes, just 1 chip Oo. The road star is no slouch with 1600cc's but on a long (500 miles) ride I was pretty stiff and the poor wife sitting on the pillion was just as bad plus we are a union family and I was always catching hell for the rice burner. I borrowed my Buddy's electra glide to get some parts and I was hooked. I now have a 2004 electra glide classic and my wife thinks she is the queen with the tourpak back rest and arm pillows. We have put 4000 miles on it since July and have absolutely no regrets. When I ask her if she wants to go for a ride now I better have the bike ready. If you want to bike by yourself get a metric as it seems they don't 2up much. Don't kid yourself, if you ride any bike and you want to be safe you need to work on them, tires, brakes, and regular PM.

Hey guys I know Harley makes a sweet bike . but I got one for you to check out its the Boss Hoss has a v8 chevy with a powerglide transmission even has reverse my brother has one its pretty sweet any of you guys up Reno/ Carson city way ever see him rideing it say hi and check it out .
