I have been reading about harmonic balancers and am at a point in my reconstruction where it would be easy to replace. My engine has 185,000 miles on it and runs smoothly. I haven't seen any guidelines about replacement specs. I have some mild power upgrades and hoping the stock pulley will be sufficient. Can anyone advise?

The only guidelines I have seen were in the owner's manual for the new 6BT marine engine I installed a few years ago in my ex boat. It said to look for signs of leaking or rubber starting to come out of the center. The don't ike to be drenched with oil either.

Other than that it said nothing. I know these are good for ratings up to about 2800rpm according to one Cummins expert I talked with.

Guys here use them with the 3200 rpm spring upgrade and I don't recall anyone reporting a problem.

I also know that on some engines if you remove the balancer you need to use NEW bolts. I don't know if Cummins specifies this but you should check that out.
