taking the harmonic balancer off and snapped off one bolt, and took the threads out of another, also the dowel pin is gone and tone ring is damaged wtf now, is there a jig for drilling and tapping these out ? either way i am going to have to pull the rad and intercooler out to get a straight shot for clean drilling and tapping, #@$%! going to have to rely on the twelve vlave with half a million miles on it to take me to the dunes:-laf

since i am going to be in there, i ordered the drill pin kit jig for adding the extra dowel, i guess on the bright side if i mess up the crank i can go ahead and build my stroker motor:D

That sucks. This comes up every now and then. I hope to never need to remove my balancer, but if I do I hope the bolts stay intact.

I agree with you that the most accurate way of repairing it is to pull the radiator and intercooler (and A/C condenser) to get a straight shot. [Although it might be possible to leave those in-place and use a right-angle drill. ]

If I were doing it, I'd first try dilling out the old screws with the correct-diameter tap drill and then try to retap without a change in screw size.

Failing that, I think I'd bore to the next size thread, all without removing the crank from the engine.

Anyone see a reason that wouldn't work?

Ryan

i have a feeling i will be drilling it out and going with larger bolts, i also ordered the jig for drilling to add another dowel pin, i have a spare 5. 9 crank on hand but if i am going to go that far then i will just build a stroker motor.

Why were you removing your ballancer was it to replace with the Fluidampr? When I removed my OEM ballancer to replace with a Fluidampr I was blessed that all bolts backed out really easy.

yes, i was going to throw on the fluidampr before i headed to the dunes

Bad luck for sure. You would have had the same problem if only replacing the front seal. Not sure if it will work, but a left handed drill bit might be worth a try. But hey, don't twist off a bit in there.

I JUST GOT SOME M-12-1. 25 TAPS AND A SET OF LEFT HAND DRILL BITS, MY ONLY CONCERN IS IF I RETAP IS IT GOING TO HOLD, I MIGHT HAVE TO GO FROM AN M12 BOLT TO A 1/2 INCH SINCE THAT IS THE INBETWEEN FROM 12-14MM, ALSO I CAN USE CAT BOLTS ON MY CUMMINS SINCE I AM A CAT MECHANIC LOL:-laf

got them drilled out, retapped and drilled the extra dowel hole, and then when i went to drill out the broken dowel, i busted off a titanium drill bit in the crank, dohh anyways all back together and no more wobble
