Here I am

Has anybody actually done a Cummins into a Ford conversion?

Thanks, TDR Staff

Hot wrench in Phoenix???

Ripped the center out of my clutch! Cummins IH

I've seen a lot of people asking about it, but has anybody actually don it? I know there was one guy who put a 8. 3 in, but I'd realy like to talk to somebody who's done a 5. 9 into a mid/late 90's truck.

Thanks a lot.

There are conversion outfits in Tex that put 5. 9s in Fords but don't know any names. I've heard of an 8. 3 in a Ford but expect it took a lot of surgery! I'm also interested! Craig

I am also interested in doing a CTD swap to replace the 6. 9. I know a guy in Poplar Bluff MO that supposedly has a 5. 9 and an RTO 1066 in an 85 Ford. I need info on hooking up to a C6. Shouldnt be too hard.

old pics

If you punch up f-350 in a search of the conversion forum it will show you a thread titled "f-350 conversion" it shows the pics of how my truck started off as an old worn out welding truck that I traded two shotguns and a rifle for.

Thanks for the link. I've visited www.fordcummins.com many times. I 've talked to their people a couple times, but I'd like to talk to somebody who's not trying to sell a product as well.

Copterdoc, nice pics! I"ll deffinatly look up your posts. Would you mind if I email ya some questions?

no problem

no problem ask away.

I didn't use a www.fordcummins kit. I didn't like the way it was set up. The only thing that I bought was the mounts from randy a reliable diesel. also I posted some more pics in my readers rides gallery. copterdoc

Oh I know, I was refering to the folks at fordcummins.com

They're answeres always seemed to involve the phrase "Well if you buy our kit... ... bla bla bla"

CPFF, your truck looks real good! Nice job fitting up the 96 front clip and bed. That sort of thing is a lot easier said than done... ... I know from experiance. I once put a 95 Chevy front end onto an 85 Chevy Blazer. Talk about a pain in the rear!

THANK YOU! That's the one I was refering to, but couldnt remember the guys name! That thing is way too cool! More work than I would be willing to do though unless they made a "real" Jacobs engine brake for them. Now THAT would be awesome!

Just mailed my stock downpipe to a guy doing a conversion. Not sure what year truck or engine. Just glad to help him out. I sort of envy those with the time, work space, and ambition to take on such a project.

No compression brake is available for the C-series engines (6CT and ISC). Smallest engine you can get with a compression brake is the ISL, which is basically a stroked ISC. The ISL is 8. 9L, and the ISC is 8. 3L. :D

Yes, there are real Ford/Cummins Conversions!

I am currently involved in a long term (very slow) Ford/Cummins conversion on my 1987 F30, 4X4, Crewcab dually. No kit, just lots of advice from this forum and Randy @ Reliable Diesel in Mesa, Arizona. I use the motor mounts from Reliable.

I have finally got the Dodge 518 Automatic rebuilt and converted over to a lock up converter. Just bolted up the converted Dodge to Ford 205 transfercase. I used a Ford 205 divorce transfercase and installed all of the newer, "good stuff" from the Dodge 205, and bolted the Ford case to the Dodge transmission with the original Dodge adapter.

Next step will be this weekend to re-install the Cummins and the 518 Auto back in the Ford for , hopefully, the last time.

I simply can't believe that this project is giving me such an hassle just trying to find the time and energy to work on it. I know it will be worth the trouble and time in the end.
