I just broke the rear window of my truck last night and was wondering if anyone had replaced it themselves. I'm thinking of swapping in a slider.

Thanks

I looked into doing my power slider myself, and it required a special tool to get the disposable sealer out from around the window and a special sealer to re-install the window. I got the impression that it wasn't a do-it-yourself job from the people I talked to.

When they gave me my rear window back, it wasn't damaged at all though. There are also some clips that bend around the window if I remember right.

Install the slider, whether you do it yourself or have it done by a shop (I recommend the latter). About once every six months I want to transport something long and slender, and don't want it hanging 10' out the back. A couple of heavy towels to protect the upholstery, and I'm good-to-go, with the cargo only 3 or 4 feet out the back. VERY handy.

I installed a slider in my previous truck and it wasn't too hard. You'll need a sharp knife to cut through the existing sealant and some patience to clean the old sealant out of the window opening. some small plastic spacers to help position the new slider and the new sealant. Just follow the directions on the sealant tube and be careful cause what ever you get it on has it on permantly.

Mostanything.

I removed my broken slider and had it replaced. I saved a bundle doing the prep for the guy. It's a bear getting the goo off the cab opening. Nothing like the '60s and '70s trucks where you put some string in the gasket, press into place and pull the string out.
