I did a lot of reading on the subject and then took my truck with only 30K on the clock to Bill at DTT and got the full meal deal, so I could add an exhaust brake. I had them use my transmission. Stefan installed DD1 Jammer injectors and added a Edge Comp without the injector wire. I could not be happier. Tows the 11K+ 5th wheel like a dream now. Truck is just fun to drive. Wife can not keep me out of it. It is like the rubber band between the go pedal and the rear wheels is gone.
I was looking at and driving 2004. 5 6 speeds. It was going to cost 20 to 24K to upgrade. So I decided spending 8K on the 2001. 5 to make it a super truck was a good deal for us. Wife would not have liked the 6 speed to go get bark or plants at the nursery, or a trip to Home Depot. PM me if you want additional info. I added the 3 rd gen track bar and have had the DSS brace for a couple years.
I'd just like to get rid of the auto and trade with somebody. If I can't find someone to trade with, I'll just go to DTT.
I bought the truck thinking I liked the auto, but the more I drive it (especially the more I tow) the more I don't like it. It's AWESOME for smoking ricers and offroad, but I just can't see dishing out 4-6k to get the transmission to work right...
The shift into OD is what really get's to me, especially when it's cold. My 3. 54's don't mix well with it either...
