Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Has anyone ever heard of this one?

Hello,



This morning, my brother was coming home from work when his truck started steering hard. He pulled off the side of the road to check out what was going on. When he got out of the truck, not only did he find a flat tire, but he found a very large chunk of the aluminum rim was missing! So, now he is going to have to check out the many junk yards we have around!



Has anyone heard of these rims breaking apart? I know that I never have. He is getting really disgusted with this truck. It's been everything but the engine!



Anyone got any ideas on what could've happened?

I've heard of them cracking but not breaking apart????

I had one of the Rims on my 01. 5 crack pretty bad. I think it was a mechanic at my dealer when I had a tire replaced for warranty issues using the incorrect style of tire machine.
