Shell Rimula on the shelf?

reason I ask is out of curiosity more than ever thinking I would use it
but since Mopar recommends their own oil for our trucks
and the suitable alternative they suggest as being Rimula
I was wondering if anyone has actually seen that stuff on a shelf in an auto parts, truck stop etc?

All 3 oils that Ram recommends are Mopar, Rotella, and Rimula. None appears to carry any more precedence, and they are just recommendations. It’s a money endorsement between Shell and Ram.

I say that because there isn’t a Rimula made in either of oil grades used by the CGI engine, yet it’s still recommended in the owners manual. Furthermore MS-10902 isn’t even listed on the Rimula label.

It’s things like this that make me laugh at what Ram considers a “recommendation”.

my point too.. my truck is a 16, they didn't even list Rotella, just Rimula as the alternative in the OM, the way I look at it is Mopar comes up with their own obscure spec and recommends a particular alternative oil that is almost unavailable, basically as a way to get the people who don't know any better to
buy it from them... whereas people in the know familiar with Cummins brand understand that currently all Cummins spec's are a preferred viscosity in a CK4 oil that carries the CES 20086 spec that pretty much all of the oil makers have for sale.. while Cummins INC might steer you towards Premium Blue because that is who they have a marketing agreement they don't actually steer you towards some obscure spec oil only available at a dealer or oil distributor.

I don't think the MOPAR spec is obscure, I think it mimics the respective Cummins CES standard.

My 2018 manual reads like my 2022, Mopar, Shell Rotella and Shell Rimula for MS-10902 or CES 20081... which is another lack of attention to detail because CES 20081 is the obsolete CJ-4 spec.

yes, mine is the same way. Calling for CJ4 when the CK4 had been on the market for a year.
Then again the book also says to grease the tie rod ends, which dont have any grease fittings.

Rimula (T2) is more of a fleet spec oil. We got it by the drum for years for the cranes. I'll try and get out to the oil shed tomorrow and see if that's still the case.
