I am talking about the power/heated ones... I know you can get the regular ones off the 02's, and 01's... I am talking about the same ones, but which are offered with power and heat... Someone chime in!!

Really nice mirrors

I can't say I've ever heard of it being done but I can tell you you'll really like those mirrors. Aside from maybe the 4 wheel disc brakes they are my favorite feature on this new rig. Good luck.

Many guys on here have done it. Im trying to decide which to do first the new stereo, or the mirror conversion. I can hide the conversion from the wife easier than the new stereo, so maybe that will be the next bomb. LOL:-{}

I have done it and one of the best mods to date. It is very important to read Robs "How to " details and watch out for the spring behind the clip when separating bases. Don't forget the new door clips needed to secure door panel back on. Dealer is way out of line on price and you can get them at other locations such as stereo shops. thanks again to Rob Thomas for the help

So let me get this right. . you need 2 sets of these mirrors?? One off the 2nd gen, which are dumb mirrors (No power/heat), and the new ones, or can I use the bases from the heated mirrors which are on my truck now?? I kind of have a round about idea, but am not positive. . I know there is someone out there in TDR Land who can enlighten me!

Yes, you need two sets of flip up mirrors, one set of non-power/heated, and one set of power/heated. So if you don't have the non power/heater ones already, it's going to be quite expensive, but worth it IMO. The bases from the small mirrors will not work. I think the OEM non power/heated run about $212ish.

I put on new flip up mirrors I just went with the manual ones but then I like things simple like transmission's manual window cranks and locks.

mirrors

So in short, I would use only the heads from the '03 mirrors and attach them to my '02 arms that are attached to the door? Cliff

Cliff, I suppose you could do it that way, but it's much easier to seperate the arm from the base, than the head from the arm. In essence, all you need from the non powered/heated mirrors are the bases (sails technicly, the parts that attaches to the door), nothing else.

In the begining, I found a guy who worked at one of the mirror plants, we tried to buy (even in quanity) the sails, but the company wanted nothing to do with it.

Rob

Rob ~~~ Now that I know that I have "sails," I'm on my way to the garage to look at them :D I sure want to do this change as it's a pain reseting the mirrors when I pull our 5th wheel.

Thanks for the help. Cliff

That blows... . at least if I have 2 sets, I can rig up the set I dont use, and sell them..... There's always an up side to a problem!! The way I see it, the glass is always ½ full, not ½ empty!

-Chris-

True, you can make up the one set and TRY to sell them, but that set will only fit the '03's, and won't be power/heated, and who would want that? Sorry to drain your half full glass, LOL. Although, who knows, it seems anything sells on e-bay. :D

There is a set of manual towing mirrors on EBAY that are slightly used. Right now there is 1 day, 18 hours left, and they're at $177.

I bought mine on EBAY several months ago but have not bought the 2003 set yet; still manual but I can live with that for now.

Start by buying a set of the 2nd gen towing mirrors. They will NOT have heat or power adjust mechanisms. What you want are the mounts. If you don't care for the heated/powered feature and just want the manual mirrors, it's an EASY swap. I did mine in under 2 hours.

If you want the heat/power features, then you will need to buy another set of new mirrors for a 2003, which are ALL powered. Then follow the directions on how to disassemble and reassemble (earlier post this thread).

See this thread too for more info.

I don't know how much the 2003 towing mirrors are. They're not cheap that's for sure!
