Well guys. . looks like My alternator died today!!
I towed a light load (about 2k) from Denver to Haxtun (About a 2 hr road trip each way) today helping my sister and her husband move.
We emptied the trailer and started our journey home. Things were good until I got home. I backed the empty trailer into the driveway, threw the parking brake on and put the truck in Neutral, figured I'd better let her cool down. Being that it was kinda chilly today, I popped the hood open just to get some fresh air inside the engine compartment to help it cool off. After opening the hood, I went to the back of the truck to start unhooking the trailer. When I got back there I noticed my engine compartment started puffing out white smoke. Of course I went to go investigate quickly to see that it was my alternator that was smoking. I let the truck cool down for about 2 minutes total before shutting down. I payed close attention to the alternator making sure the smoke went away.
After about 15 minutes of letting the truck rest, I decided to start it back up and see what would happen. Well immediately the alternator started smoking again and my voltmeter wouldn't leave 8 volts. Looks like it's toast!!!!
So the wife called roadside assitance and they took my baby away on a flatbed.
Sorry this is soo long... I was just curious as to if anyone else has had alternator problems?
I'm just hoping that my dealer fixes it under warranty. . being taht my truck only has 25k miles on it... . LOL
Now for the real bet. Should we start placing bets as to if my 5 star dealer can find the SMOKING alternator and replace it???? Or is this going to be another pass the puck routine?? LMAO
