Has anyone here bought the full splined shaft or transmission from Stand.trans???

My last post on this transmission thing. Gotta "sh*t or get off the pot" as the old timmers say.

Has anybody here purchased a trans from Standerd trans in Texas with the full splined 5th gear shaft or the up grade splined shaft>??

If so, how many miles and how has it held up?

I've gotta make a move on this transmission problem shortly... I appreciate your input and opinions greatly.

Thanks for putting the question out there. Like you, I'm going to have to make a decision on this fairly soon. The only thing holding me back from buying the Standard Transmission "fix" is lack of feedback from other members. If you've installed it, please let us hear from you.

The best thing to do is to call Mike Patton at Standard Transmission and Gear and talk to him. 817. 625. 7109. I spoke with Joe Donneley at the Texas Rally, he had stopped and visited with Mike Patton on the way to the rally and seemed to have good things to say.

Mike is a good honest guy, smart, and seems to have found the handle for your 5th gear nut problem; he can explain it to you in simple terms. I know this comes from an auto transmission guy, but I have met him and he makes sense.

I bought the mainshaft, bearing and nut "kit" from Standard Transmission. I know Joe did, also.
I am keeping mine on hold until the nut falls off again, or find a mechanic I trust to do the job. I think Joe is in the same position at this time. We have a friend who had it done, but not enough miles to draw any conclusions. My last (and olnly) fix was over 25,000 miles ago and I stopped babying it. Who knows? At least I have the parts for the when, not if... ... ... ...

Update:

Well, I decided today to go ahead and buy one of the rebuilt trans from Standerd in Fort Worth, Tx.

I figured with a 10,000 mile warranty and the full splined shaft, and the nut being staked on mutiple times by them, would offer me the best chance of uninterupted travels. . I hope, anyway.

I hate being a "trail blazer", but oh well.


While i was at a trans shop in my area, I found another Ram 1 ton 5 speed with a bum 5th gear. . This poor guy had already "welded" his spun nut on the shaft, but it broke the shaft...

That made the decision for me. .

I'm suprised no one on the board has actually bought/used their parts. . I hope to be able to give good news as time goes.

Intersting post!

When you next call them ,ask who is the guy's name from ind. that lead them to the idea (fix that works) and did or did'nt they , in 97/98 offer a one year -unlimited miles warranty on ther reman transmission and later change'd there policy because the OE could'nt and would'nt give that warranty .
Don't get me wrong. There good people,but just covering there A--'s $$. Also ask them
if i told them about the piolt bushing from South Bend clutch. Told a guy in the Jeep building in Detroit and from another source My latest info is Valeo is(clutch mfg) using it as OE starting in 2002 model year. Who'd have thunk????????????Most likely see a TSB late in the year (2001) about the new replacement. Just my guestamation!!!!!!

And some one said -hole machined off center!!! Arn't we imbearassed!! A rip off some dealers are telling owners to a tune of $600. A nother note if you have a (extra) flywheel(above stated ) e-mail first- and i will buy it.
