Was wondering if anyone here has p pumped a common rail? Was wondering what all is needed to do the swap. Would it be very street able? Good daily driver? Thanks in advance

While with Diesel Dynamics/Edge we used HPCR blocks, 12 valve heads, and P pumps (or bigger). The P-pump gear case needs some holes relocated for it to work on the common rail block.

simple reason to go the P pump route,,,get rid of the ****ty common rail fuel system,,,,which is such crap,,,the p-pump engine is so much better and 100 % more reliable,,,not to mention will run on any quality fuel,,,injectors are dirt cheap,,,and you wont get stuck at the side of the road because some piece of **** electronics has failed,,,not to mention the awsome low end torque a 12V engine can give,,,i have both,,my trusty 96 3500 4x4 dually that has 600,00 trouble free km's,,,on the same injectors,,,run biofuel and just about anything else since about 50,000 km's,,my other truck i hardly drive is a 2007 megacab 4x4 dually Laramie,,,,nice truck,,but nowhere near reliable or as solid as my 96,,,so it stays parked in the yard except on week ends,,,but there's hope for my Megacab yet,,met an owner of the same truck that transplanted a nice built 12 valve engine in his,,,and driving that thing is so awsome,,,the CR engine will NEVER get anywhere near as nice torquewise as these 12V,,,,my Megacab will be getting the same treatment this winter,,best of both worlds,,nice big comfortable cab,,and the most reliable diesel engine ever,,12 valve ,,P-pump engine,,,can't beat that combination...

CR, common rail, is a fuel system, if you convert it to a another type of fuel system in is no longer a CR. 12 valve injectors will not fit in a 24 valve so they can not be used.

curtis,,you can't really compare this to a carbed gasoline car,,,the conversion to the mechanical P-Pump and injectors,,is to ditch the crappy common rail electronic injection and go back to the tried and true bulletproof mechanical system that hardly ever goes bad,,,and will run on pretty much any type of diesel or alternative fuel...the modern electronic injectors are total crap if they dont get absolutely pristine fuel,,,which these days,,,crappy fuel is around lot...ask me how i like filling my old 12 v truck with at the most $10.00 worth,,(my cost) of fuel,,,compared to my megacab which is over $100.00 in the US,,$180.00 here in canada,,my old 96 is at 600,000 km's on the same pump and injectors,,had the head off last year and everything is still mint,,the old truck has been running crazy fuels since 50,000 km's,,,i can't even imagine the money i saved,,,but it's enough for a couple new motors,,,try that in a CR engine,,and the injectors will crap out in less than 10,000 miles,,,that's why lots of guys would love to convert back to the best diesel pump ever made,,,the mighty P-Pump..LOL..

depends on where you live,,and there are ways around that,,,not all tests are the same,,in my case,,if i take the time to build myself the ultimate truck,,,it's not going to be for sale,,,megacab,,,12Valve motor,,P-Pump...Dana axles,,,stretched to an 8' box,,,nope,,that's not getting sold,,,and if it did,,it would be to knowlegable buyer begging to buy it,,LOL
