If anyone has done this, would you mind sharing any tips, gotcha’s, etc. I bought some regular truck 24”x30” plastic mud flaps. I also got the polished weights. I was thinking about cutting them down a bit, but it looks like I don’t really need to. I was thinking of fabricating an aluminum bracket attached to the inside wheel well. Any suggestions?

Yes i went to a steel fab shop and had them bend some 1/8 alum

diamond plate and bolted inside fender well and attached rubber mud flap with chrome attached to bottom. I had it bent back 4' and then down 3'' to get flap back where you are not so apt to back over and tear off. I have less than $50 in both sides.

I bought some plastic ones that have a rectangular piece of polished aluminum riveted to the bottom that can be seen from behind the truck. These were designed to fit Dodge trucks so they were cut to follow the curve of the fender well where they attach. Pretty straight forward putting them on and they work just fine, except the rear right-hand side one bends back at freeway speeds and taps my tail pipe a little and leaves a slight gouge in the aluminum on the flap. I never hear it though. Gets all sooty when I got around the drofs and chebbys at 90+ MPH :p

Hey guys, THANKS!

Nice pictures Chris, that looks like it will work for me. MMclain - major flaps! Looks good. Sneaky way to get you picture rated! :D My wife drives the Cummins, is that good enough?

I did the same as dflavor except that I bought rubber flaps for a big rig and bent the aluminum diamond plate myself using a bench vice and some 2 X 4 lumber. I have pulled off enough mud flaps by backing into curbs and such to really appreciate the offset back away from the tire.

I also put about a 3 inch strip of the diamond plate along the bottom of the flap for looks and to add weight to hold it down better.

I went to the dodge dealer and picked up a set of their heavy rubber flaps. They are 5/8 inches thick, Dually style, and have a rams head on them. Best of all, they only cost about 30 bucks for the pair.

One drawback, the plastic mounting clips are too short to use. I just used soem of the spare stainl;ess pool bolts I had laying around.

Yep. I did the same a Straight6Jeff did.

You can barely see them in my pics in the link below... Maybe I'll get a chance to take some close-ups later.
