I've had a new remote starter since Christmas and have not installed it yet because the installation looks pretty intimidating. The truck has keyless entry w/alarm so the starter kit is the kind that ties into this whole system, plus it has the delay timer for the diesel.

Has anyne installed one of these types? Is it as big a deal as it looks? I don't want to get half way through this and find that I can't finish the job.

Just some advise I have a friend with a remote start timer on his diesel and it is timed to long for the start and his (Ford) won't start cause the glow plugs have cooled down too much before it starts to crank. Better off trying to hook it to the WTS light.

Mine was just wired to the wait to start light and ended up with a backfeed that lit up the light whenever the remote start was used. If you are looking for a signal go directly to a grids stud for best results. Changed mine over on the last 2 trucks to make it work properly.

Anytime you are concered about power backfeeding through a circuit a diode should be used. This will solve the problem.

I have installed several remote starters over the years it is a little tricky although not too difficult. If you are not comfortable laying under the dash of your truck and cutting and soldering wires I would not recommend doing it yourself.

I was reading up on that problem with remote starts on Fords, and it is because they don't have an actual wire you can tap into for the WTS light. Trying to hook to the actual light required more disassembly than most shops want to do.

I've installed two remote starts, but only one successfully. The first was in my grilfriend's Grand Am, and I gave up on that one. The second was in my truck, and although it wasn't easy, I did get 'er done. The hardest part with mine was getting the power door locks and such wired in.

i have one on my truck and i will tell you what, i love it! but i would never attemp to install it myself, even though i am mechanically inclined. i had a buddy talk to a buddy who happened to work at ultimate electronics, he did the install on the side for $100 (remote start keyless entry security turbo timer) well worth it in my eyes, talk it up you never know

there are multiple ways for diesel. the wts light with diode is the way i did mine. there are also timer boxes that you set to the same amount of time the wts light is on. they do look intimidating, but are not that bad. i can get you a printout for your particular application. pm me a fax number and ill send you one. mark
