Any one installed a truck alarm system with a remote starter? If so what brand?



Any upsides, or down sides?

I have a Viper 791 that has a remote start and a turbo cool down timer built in. The only thing I don't like about the remote start is that the tach referance will not work off of an injector (it is supposed to). This means there is no run confirmation to release the starter. There is a start timer in the system that I am using instead, it works but I would rather have the tach signal.

I just called my dealer, since the truck is sitting at the dealership getting my t-rex 2" leveling kit installed Oo. , and I asked him about it. He said Mopar makes a remote engine start kit that plugs right into the factory alarm and computer. It's not too pricey, so I think I'm going to try that and see if I like it any more than I would an after market.

Do you have more information on the Mopar remote start? I have the factory alarm and if I could get a factory remote start I would by a turbo temperature monitor and get rid of the Viper alarm.

I have installed a few of these factory remote starts, and they even have an option for diesels that allow a longer crank time!, nice, very nice



And easy to install and configure

about $299 in parts, then $200 ?? to install i bet

just called the dealer . . . tech said it's not available for 03-04, only starting with 05's. He said it's a different puter.

I've got a compustar, its pretty cool. Works up to a mile away, plus visual confirmation of startup. The remote is kinda big though...

I have the MOPAR remote start on my 2004 and it works great. There were three parts to the kit, 1. Is 82208859 which is base kit. 2. Is 82208863 which is installation kit that has wiring harmess and key fobes and rec unit. 3. Is 82209082 that is SKIM interface that looks like a "SENTRY" key to your alarm sytem when remstart is activated.

Artie, did you install this yourself?? If so how long did it take and how hard was it to do?? And if yours is a 2004 you think it will work on a 2003?

tae73, no I had dealer do the installation as the truck was in for several other things and I didn't want to do wiring changes (three wires are tapped into by the installation harness) while still under warranty. As to wheather this unit would work on an 2003 I do not think so, all the color codes for wires that have to be tapped into are based on 2004 wiring plus I found that there was a change in the ignition switch connector wiring between an 2003 and 2004. The main wiring harness that comes in the installation kit connect in between the two connectors going to the ignition switch.
