Has anyone started running Veggie oil?

Well I looked into this and found that conversion to Veg Oil is becoming more and more popular. One concern I have is that running on non diesel begins to look like a part time job what with collecting and filtering and such. I made a little spread sheet to analyze this a little bit. I also found some spliers of parts, tanks etc etc, and The "Greasel" outfit seems to be mentioned all over the Internet so they are probably one the top companies doing this, Has anyone dealt with them?



Who out here has done this before?



How long did it take to do the conversion (what kind if vehicle did they convert?)



What kind of mileage do you get (compared to what they got with regular diesel fuel)



How long have you been running with the Veggie system



Do you run 100% veggie



How's the reliability



How are thing in cold weather



What do you like most about running converted



What do you like least about running converted



Where do you get their Veg Oil



How many customers (donators) do you have



Who are the best targets for donators

My girlfriend works with a potato breeder. Every so often they have to fry them to evaluate their suitability for french fries/ potato chips. The oil is used once. She got me 35 gallons of it. It was so clean that I just filtered it and ran it 50/50 with diesel.

I've made 10 gallon batches of biodiesel too, but I don't see the harm in burning the 50/50 straight veg oil mixture in the summer.

I'm with ThrottleJockey..... Go with the Frybrid. After much adieu I'll be ordering finally. Chris really has his act together on the kits. If you feel like running 100% Biodiesel in the winter you can do that too with the heated tank.



I'm currently running 50% WVO/50% petro in my stock truck.

20 mpg in stop in go traffic with ac on. But I haven't done any real mods yet.

I ran 90% during a hot spell last year in my stock truck for 1/2 tankful



How's the reliability



engine starts quicker then petro

laying down smoke that smells like french fries, this will change when I convince the fish store to hand over their oil

Who are the best targets for donators



small diners and restaurants. The ones that give you their oil back in the cubes that the oil came in. That way it isn't frozen in a 55 gallon drum during the winter.



Be careful with Mexican/Spanish restaurants. The cheesier ones don't change their oil frequently enough. Lets say it was black when I saw it. It will clog your filters rather quickly and not worth the expense.

This will depend on the place and how often the do the 5 day/50,000 french fry oil change.



I get my coffee and cube of oil once a week. The other place I have to pump out of a drum.

varies vehicle to vehicle. about 15 hours for simple to 40+ for complex.

I get 1-2 mpg less on 100% WVO

I'm approaching 6000 mile on WVO

Start up and shut down on diesel/biodiesel. 100% WVO in between

haven't been through winter yet. only difference will be longer warm up times.

free fuel... ..... actually right now it's costing me about . 30 a gallon to filter down to 3 micron.

I have a 55 gallon barrel and a 330 gallon tote



What are your thoughts on this conversion, what would you do different etc... .



Since I've done alot of conversions I used that knowledge when I did my truck 2004. 5 Dodge.

I suggest heating the fuel system all along the WVO side of the system. So tank heater, filter heater, fuel line heater and a final heater just before the IP.

Also very good filtration and a quality lift pump.
