Has anyone used this oil?

Has anyone used traveler 15-40 oil form Tractor supply? And a question for the The Nebraska members, any opinion on a Omaha based company, Warren distributing? They bottle Traveler for TSC.

I was in TSC the other day and looked aty that. I wouldnt run it in my truck just because i dont know anything about it. These engines are too expensive to dump a cheap oil in just because its a few buxx cheaper.

Thats my point, if a company doesnt want you to know whats in it then im not gonna use it. I use Rotella because i get it for FREE. When that well runs dry, im going to try AMSOIL and get their bypass.

Rotella Is CJ-4 I need CI-4! Granted you get it for free, and I have had some bad experiences with synthetics, for me I can not take the chance.

I may be wrong but i think that if you use this cheap TSC oil, thats taking a BIG chance. IMO I am not trying to argue with you at all. I am by no means an oil expert. In fact i know very little , but i have always ran Rotella in my trucks with good luck. I know these oils are getting better and better, especially the synthetics that are out now. I have heard a few, but very few, people say that they have had bad experiences with these synthetics. I know when i have a bad experience with something, it takes alot of work and effort to get me to try it again. It seems like synthetic is a very good route for alot of people to go. I hope you find out some good info on that TSC oil, or have good luck finding another cheap alternative.

What I meant was I can not take the chance with CJ-4 oil. (the 6. 7 is designed to use this oil,) My diesels are not. Finding CI-4 is becoming harder and harder. #@$%! You are right it will take quite a lot too convince me to use the synthetics.

i have the traveller 15 w 40 from TSC in my engine right now. this is the first oil change i have tried it with, all is well. oil level has remained constant, no odd odors or colors on the dipstick. cheaper? yeah, a couple bucks, but it meets all the performance requirements of the major diesel manufacturers, and has all the performance characteristics of brand name oils. i'd be willing to bet it is identical to some national brands, only in a different wrapper. the main selling point was that it is still CI-4, as someone posted earlier, this is becoming harder and harder to find for our older 5. 9 L motors. and if for nothing else, if a farmer is gonna go and use this in his combine, bobcat, or tractor, then it will surely work in my motor!

You might want to check on the (bob is the oil guy.com) website for info. on that oil. Some of the members on that site know about all there is to know about oils. They may be able to find out who actually manufactures that product & of what quality,it is.



Also, the CI-4 'PLUS' is probably what you are looking for. Its a bit different than the CI-4. In the Chevron Delo-400, 15X40, Moly & Boron were added to the formula in the "PLUS" formulation. That addition made this particular oil absolutely excellent. Some folks referred to it as very close to the quality of fully-synthetic. I do used oil analysis & noticed the addition of Moly & Boron when they changed over to the "PLUS" formula.

I have been using Delo for years in my trucks and tractors. Back when I bought my first CD I did a lot of research and found one of the biggest trucking companies on the east coast tested a lot of oils with the oil companies held, this outfit has well over a thousand trucks running. They said they got the same results as synthetic with out the oil leaks or the cost. They posted all of the findings as they went a long. It was interesting. If you like shopping in box stores wallmart sells it.

TSC oil is typically thought to be an average oil... nothing special, but it works. IMO, if you are doing a 3k or 5k OCI, it would most likely serve very well.



The best thing, if you decide to run it, would be to run a couple UOAs on it to ensure its doing the job.

I haven't used the "traveler" oil. But if the price and API spec were right, I would use it in a heartbeat. I've been using Kendall CL4 plus because I got a really great deal on 50 gallons of it. I change my oil at 6 months or 5,000 miles regardless of what oil I'm using.



Also, I have used Amsoil in several high mileage vehicles with no ill effects. I really like synthetics, but the performance does not always justify the price.
