Considering piercing the pump on my 99. Trying to create a poll to reveal how soon after piercing the pump your pump may have died... . or not.

My VP 44 failed at 35K miles and was changed out under warranty. The pump wire was pieced within first 2K miles. I can't say whether piercing the pump wire caused ot contibuted to the failure. The LP was still good.

I pierced the replacement pump right after it was changed and have 97K miles on it now.

As you can see, I wnet for it and would go for it again.

I pierced my pump within 1 week of ownership (original owner).

I do not know if this contributed to failure (at first), but I am on my 3rd VP44 (140,000mi). All have been pierced. First Pump failed @ 65,000mi, 2nd @ 115,000mi, 3rd is a Hot Rod pump.

I did have fuel supply issues on the first pump. I installed a FASS at about 60,000mi. I do not know how long I drove with a dead LP.

The truck has always been run hard.

Seems like the newer electronics in the latest VP44s are holding up better to pump wire taps than the older ones did. Of course there were mechanical issues also with tapping the wire, but it just seems like alot more people are getting away with tapped wires than before. Thats not a fact, just a trend Ive been noticing. . Looks like the newer rebuilt VPs are getting tougher. Which is a VERY good thing.

Edited: One thing that they say to avoid doing is being under heavy throttle and letting off quick. Try to ease out of it if possible. Easier on the pump.

I pierced my pump wire around 80K and I now have 141K with no injection pump problems just one lift pump failure that should have taken out my VP with only 3psi at an idle but she kept on going.
