I'll bet I'm not the only one, upon turning over the keys of an old rig, to a new owner, who looks at that old stead one last time with a tear stained eye. That old rig could have taken you to life's biggest highs, the birth of your children, there marriage, that trip to see your first grandchild. and to the depths of despair, that trip to a hospital to say goodbye and that dreaded funeral procession.

Some people are more sentimental than others, but does anybody out there share a similar fate? Let's be honest, our rigs, no matter what they are, if you keep them very long, they share a lot of what life is all about. And those memories aren't erased with the signing of some paperwork.

I haven't personally shed a tear for a former car and don't think I would. But I really have a problem with movies. It is quite embarrassing when you shed tears during movies. :{ :D

I owned a 1980 VW diesel Dasher wagon. Bought it new. Drove it for 19 years, brought both of my girls home from being born, taught my oldest how to drive stick, hauled everything in it including two 302 ford V8 engines at the same time. And when I used to drink some years ago, the car always got me home. I sold it when I bought the Dodge. It had 230k, used oil, but still got 40 mpg at 75 mph. Sold it to a gal who ran it out of oil about 4 months after she bought it from me(She told me that the oil light had only flickered for two days!) My family and I saw it on the side of the freeway with a hole in the side of the engine. This car NEVER let me or my family down by the side of the road and I drove the doors off of it. The saddest thought was that its next stop was the bone yard. :{ Chris

Yes, I have....

I shed some large tears of joy when I looked in the mirror of my new Dodge and saw my POS PSD Superduty sitting there at the Dodge dealer after trading it in. In fact, I drove around the block to look a second time, pinched myself just to be sure I wasn't dreaming. Yes, it wasn't a dream, the nightmare of owning a Ford was over, and crocodile tears of joy were flowing!:D :D

Shed no tears but ....

Danced a jigOo. when I got rid of my old POS 1988 Chevy 3/4.

Never again will I ever buy any GM product ... they make garbage period! :D

Never shed tears selling a vehicle, but did when I had one stolen when I was 19 years old. A '57 Chevy BelAir, 2 dr. hardtop with a modified 350 Corvette engine and 4 spd.

Had some cars in my past that I *now* could shed tears over - my '50 Olds club coupe, the '40 Ford tudor - and my '51 Ford club coupe... THe '56 Ford Victoria hardtop was nice too, as was the '64 Ford Fairlane 500 club coupe (who says I hate Fords?)

I hated to see my sister-in-law drive off in my '85 vette - especially when she wrecked it a few months later, after all the tender lovin' care *I* had given it for several years...

But now especially, I *really* will hate to see my old '91 Dodge (see sig below) eventually head down the road in the hands of another - It's been absolutely, without ANY doubt, the BEST vehicle I have ever owned! Totally reliable, and NEVER failed to deliver all I ever asked of it in SPADES!

My new truck has a VERY hard act to follow!:{ :{

Yes I had tears after the Kenworth pulling twin 40'ers full of gravel T-boned my 75 Jeep CJ-5. I bought it 8 years earlier and rebuilt everthing on it myself. I did not want to see it go so I bought it from the insurance and kept it for over 3 years. I was planning on rebuilding it again. All it needed was everthing but the transfer case. Nothing else was left. Had over 2. 5 feet intrusion on the drivers side. I finlly sold it for scrap and bought a 76'. Once you own a Jeep you will always need one.

New Rule...........

I have promised myself to never sell another vehicle to someone I know and see on a regular basis.

My first truck was a Dodge Dakota back when I was in high school. At the time of sale it had a white base coat with blue pearl top coat, custom stripes along the rocker panel, aluminum wheels, sleeper, stereo, etc... ... ..... The last time I looked it there was an oil spot in the seat where the kid gets in it after working in the woods all day, had misc. dents and dings here and there, cheap chrome wheels and smoked like crazy.

My current truck will be driven over the road as long as possible, then retired to the farm to rest and occasionally pull a hay trailer or tote tools around the farm. :-laf

I had a '79 F250 4X4 for 13 years. I sunk a fortune into that truck! I loved that truck, but at the same time, it had its share of troubles (mostly due to the modifications I did) and it came home on the back end of a tow truck a few times. I remember changing the fuel pump by the side of the road in eastern Utah. Man, did that thing suck down gas!

Living in SoCal, it wasn't smog-legal with its thoroughly built swapped-in 460. I pulled that motor and rebuilt the 351 and put it back in, but even that motor had an Edelbrock intake, headers, 4-barrel, the works. I got tired of getting illegal smog certificates, it was getting harder and more expensive to get them. I Finally decided to sell it (and a '79 F250 SuperCab 4X4 that I was going to fix up) and buy a new Dodge. The guy who bought it from me fell in love with it, and he wasn't worried at all about the lack of smog equipment, because he was going to register it in New Mexico. I loaded the bed with all the spare parts I had.

I'll never forget watching that truck drive away. I was still living with my folks at the time, and I got choked up when I saw my mom crying! She hated to see the truck go! Every now and then I see a super clean '78 or '79 (especially a SuperCab), and I think, "Oh, I'd love to have that truck!" I still think the late 70's Fords were one of the best looking trucks ever built. Ever notice how many times those trucks are on the covers of 4X4 magazines?

But on the other hand, I don't know if I could ever go back to 8 mpg, a rough ride, no creature comforts, spark plug wires, hard-to-find parts, etc. !!
