Hey, have you guys noticed that pretty well every guy on this site is a decent sort... some fairly opinionated, some stubborn but generally good bunch...

Now have you also noticed that this group ( 1st Genners) do no scrapping, have almost no P1$$1Ng matches, or other disagreements?? I wonder what the deal is with that?? NOT COMPLAINING!! just find it most curious...

I know this isn't 'drivetrain related' but it is a curiousity, don't you think??

BushWakr...

I can't agree with you more. I haven't been around for all that long, but I've found your statements to be 100% correct! Its nice reading posts in a forum where there are very few negative comments made. Must be something about the 1st Generation crowd... #ad

Bushwakr I have to agree I have many interests in many things and been to many forums and the 1st gen forum is by far the best bunch of people I have found. Maybe partialy because the first gens weren't bought because they were pretty trucks but because they could do what ever you asked of them. And there were a limited amount of first generation Dodges made

BTW Bushwakr thanks for the help with the pump adjustments made a big difference still more to adjust

Darrin

Darrin said. "..... still more to adjust ... . "

:-laf :-laf :-laf ... way more... . in fact, you'll be adjusting it as it qualifies for social security... . :-laf :-laf :-laf

BTW, you more than welcome. As I've said many times, if it weren't for the guys in here... Old School, PW, Piers, Bill, Joe D,

and many others I'd still be at square one myself...

Just trying to pay back, and pay it forward a bit too ...

Bob.

Bob is right.

We need to stick together and help each other out. ;)

We are the forgotten bunch. Parts or accessarys are hard to come by. I couldn't even find a locking fuel cap, let alone a lock for the tail gate handle. Had to cut and weld a locking hoop on my tail gate because my old one was in too good of shape for someone to pass up one night 1 1/2 years ago. Insurance had to pay $2300 cdn and 2 months later for just a tail gate from the stealer.

This is a good forum. Everyone does get along prety good.

Maybe partialy because the first gens weren't bought because they were pretty trucks but because they could do what ever you asked of them.

I like the body style myself. I was going to by one of them in 88 when they first came out with the diesel. But my wife ran out a bought a 88 Aries. ( )

Then I had kids to put threw colledge. So that killed that idea. I ran across this 93 I have now for a good price 4 years ago.

1ST GEN ATTITUDE

MY WIFE AND i JUST ATTENDED OUR FIRST NWBOMBERS PARTY AND HAVE TO AGREE ABOUT THE PEOPLE WE MET SO FAR. iT COULD BE THAT FIRST GEN PEOPLE BOUGHT THEIR TRUCKS BECAUSE THEY LIKE THE STYLE,FOR SURE THE ACCESSABILTY,AND THE COST. ALSO WE PROBABLY ARE LOWER ON THE INCOME SCALE AND NEED TO CO-OPERATE AND WORK WITH EACH OTHER TO GET THE THINGS DONE THAT OTHER FOR AFFLUENT PEOPLE CAN JUST HAVE DONE FOR THEM AND THEREFORE DON'T APPRECIATE AS MUCH. BASICALLY JUST A BUNCH OF OLD STYLE HOTRODDERS!

It seems that the first genners have always been this way. From way back in the CDW (Cummins Diesel Website) that was before this site started. I have found all the guys that helped me to learn, always willing to give a hand.

I remember back when in 99, I was just asking about injectors for my 89 and had alot of responses. Then out of the blue, some guy, Piers Harry emailed me directly to give a few pointers. Who?? I think I still have that one archived somewhere.

Thanks guys for all your help if I have every forgot to say so. .

On the side... . Am I the only one with my post counter going backwards????? I was at 1000, now I'm down to just over 500???  Not like it really matters... LOL.

I agree BushWakr, this is a very good group. nascar mark has it right, we need to continue to stick together - if it weren't for this forum, there would be a lot of unanswered questions on these trucks, especially on my part. Knowing I wanted one of these trucks, but not knowing much about them, I lurked around this site and learned a lot, so I bought the truck and joined TDR. Met some good people here, online and in person. :D

I agree this is definately a great group of people... always willing to lend some advice. . or a hand when close enough.

What I think is funny (ironic) is how similar this group is to a boating group I'm involved with. Old style boats vs new.

We call it a "cult" with the old (boat) owners.

Hmmmm... ... .....

Whew !!! close one, for a while I thought it was just me being 'sappy'... .

Lil' Dog's experience is similar to mine... . one of my first posts got an answer from Old School, then I think Piers and PW jumped in with some insight(s) and it went from there.

I recall lurking a bit, and picking up a phone number as a possible source of help... so I called... . I end up talking to some guy named Joe... . yup, you got it... . Joe D.

'Course I didn't know that from a hole in the carpet then, but I got some tips and tricks and not until later did I learn who it was.

All this conversation, and he was willing to talk till I said goodbye, and hung up. .

I joined within a couple weeks of that, and haven't looked back since.

Well, we lost Old School, and one or two others since then, for one reason or another, but the rest just seemed to jump in and fill the holes...

Pay it forward guys... there's a whole new generation of 1st Gen guys comin up behind us...

Bob.

I have found that just about all of the first genners are great people, willing to help others with anything. And we don't use that "censered" thing every time we think up something new. We, as a group, are willing to share. After all, isn't that what this is all about?

I believe that just like our trucks we are a breed different from the rest. We are letting everyone rememeber about the original CTD, back when trucks were trucks. Yes they may not ride well, yes they may be a little crude but they never give up, they never say quit, and they give us their best. Just like their owners. I have always strived to be differnt than the rest of the crowd. I shows in my work, my days off and the trucks I drive.

These trucks are over ten years old and I still have people that come up to me to ask if it is for sale. I politly say " no", and they say "if it ever is for sale call me", my wife looks at them and politly says " it will never be for sale. "

We are just like our trucks a breed apart, yes we are similar to the rest of the cummins owners, but yet we are different, connected by a common bond!!!

I was looking for a good trailer-dragger three years ago. I'd never owned a Dodge diesel, but I knew they were reliable.

When I found one and took it home, I wondered how I'd ever learn enough about it.

Then I found TDR and the first-gen group.

I know quite a bit more now. One of the most important things I've learned is that the answers are here when I need them. Another thing learned is that I don't have to be bashful; lots of us are still learning.

Our trailer-dragger has taken us coast-to-coast and Alaska to Newfoundland.

Thanks to those who share their knowledge so unselfishly. I don't know what I'd do without it.

"We need to stick together and help each other out.

We are the forgotten bunch. Parts or accessarys are hard to come by. I couldn't even find a locking fuel cap"

I've been pretty much a regular in BOTH groups - had my '91 since new, and joined THIS group - great bunch - eventually bought my current '02...

Now I spend more time in the later-year group, but still monitor this one for whatever help I might be able to offer... Let me tell ya guys, ALL the guys, ALL the groups here are GREAT!

The top quote in this post probably sums up one of the biggest differences between groups - there's precious LITTLE variety in the first generation trucks to get hung-up on, most mods MUST be done in a hands-on way, and the nature of the trucks pretty much DEMANDS a high level of mutual assistance and hand-holding from other guys who have "been there, done that"!

*I* personally benefitted greatly from those guys - and have my own ocassional insight to offer some of the newer guys just getting involved - but believe me, that same level of help and concern still lives over in the later model groups - it's just that a far GREATER variety of trucks and mods exist over there, so consequently, also a greater variety of opinions as to "what's best" on any given issue...

I loved my old '91 - absolutely, positively the BEST and most trouble-free vehicle I have EVER owned, bar NONE! As are the guys HERE... But, now I have the new truck, and some of the same guys I originally met in THIS group are now over "there" - and eventually, many of YOU will be too - and you will then find all the same excellent assistance there you have here - and *I* would be proud to be one of the first to greet ya when ya show up!
