Bypass hose in pic

Dealer:$33

Cummins $30

The 90° 5/8" out of the head to the heater core.

Dealer: $35

Cummins: $33

Both are molded.

I was going to order both since I was planning on doing a thorough system flush. I passed on both.

Been there, done that:-laf

And its kind of hard to use just any hose B/C its not only 90 Deg. at both ends it also makes sort of "S" bend to get out of the way of things.

Michael

$30??? I paid about $12 from Cummins when I replaced my little bypass hose in 2004

I dunno Vaughn. I had him double-check the price. And that was the jobber price.

Somebody here, maybe JoeG had a picture and I noticed he had a homemade bypass hose in the shape of a loop. :-laf

Hemidart:

check NAPA. i changed all the coolant hoses ('94) two years ago and if my memory serves me correctly, all but the bypass hose were on the shelf and they had the bypass hose for me the next day. don't remember the cost, but it would still be riveted in my brain if i paid $30+ for it! regards, steve whalen

I just replaced mine over the weekend with a generic 90 degree bend from NAPA. I had to cut it to length, but it only (only) cost $13.

THANK YOU swhalen.

Went to NAPA

Bypass Hose (the one that bleeds air from the T-Stat housing)

p/n 7296 $4. 25

90° 5/8" heater hose

p/n 10124 $6. 99

under $12 bananas out-the-door!

I think it helped them a lot because I have a '95 6BT5. 9 Chrysler 2500/3500 Pickup catalog w/ pictures & p/n's. The counter guy at Cummins Northeast let me have it years ago.

If anybody needs P/n's just ask.

OK. I'm looking for the P/N of the brass fitting on the bottom of the vacuum pump that has the flex oil line going to it. From the Cummins web site I get 68138 and the flex hose 3923084. I don't think the number for the brass fitting has enough numbers.

Oh, and thanks for the NAPA hose numbers. I'm going to order them tomorrow.

Napa should be able to assist you (they did for me) with this brass fitting and also the flex oil line as well. Not thinking they were going to stock the oil line,I brought it there anyway expecting them to tell me to order it from dealer but they were able to "make" me one on a crimp machine they had on site. About $10 . Maybe your Napa can do the same. Good Luck. Mike

My Cummins parts book shows p/n 3924755 for the bypass hose and 3918266 for the 90* elbow. However the ESN on my 97 engine says 3933325 for the bypass and 3957649 for the elbow. These second numers are MUCH less $ that the ones shown in the book. Go figure. Shardach

Cummins p/n 68138 is a striaght fitting with 1/8 nptf on oen end and # 4 SAE inverted flare ( 7/16-20 ) on the other. Shadrach

Thank you both. I had ordered both parts on Monday from Cummins Southern Plains, they both came in today and are installed. The hose came out of Memphis, must not be a high demand item. They both have the P/Ns I listed.

Noticed something strange....

The rubber flange gasket seems to have started to "Melt". It's really soft. System is clean. The only black stuff is from the flange gasket. The square cut O-ring still looks new.

I run Fleetguard coolant w/ no additives.
