First issue:
Back in august I was towing up a hill and my coolant temps went up to about 215 which is the highest I had ever seen it. The clutch fan didn't kick in until I had climbed the hill and the temps started coming back down. Didn't think much of it. A few weeks later, my coolant temp would start wandering as I drove down the freeway. It would warm up just past 190 and then drop down to about 170, then back up past 190, then back down, continuously. I replaced the thermostat, coolant and fan clutch. I figured it was time since the truck had just turned over 125k. Seemed to be good for some time and the fan now worked as it should. Today, the temp started jumping around again. I stopped for fuel and decided to check the cooling system. The upper rad. hose was hot, but the radiator cap was not. I safely and slowly cracked the rad. cap open and some coolant came out under pressure, but it was not hot at all. Does this signal another problem or maybe some air still in the system? After about 45 minutes of driving at 70mph, the temp finally smoothes out. Any thoughts... .
Second issue:
For the first time a few weeks ago, just before I got off the freeway, I had my comp box on. I got off the freeway and came to a stop. My idle was higher than normal, just above 900. Long story short I had code 0500, I pulled the battery cables, reinstalled them and it has been fine since. I did notice that the 0500 code only showed up after I had turned the comp on. Next strange occurence, today sitting in a drive-thru, my idle jumps to 1400 (comp is on) and stays there. CEL comes on. I shut it down and fire it back up (comp off) and it stays at 1400. So I head back to my shop. I get off the freeway and am driving up the road as I loose throttle - completely dead like the throttle cable was unattached(not like normal dead-pedal I experienced with my ex-vp44). Just sat there idling. I shut it down, checked codes and got 0121 and 0122. Cycled the key a few times and it was fine. CEL went off after pulling batt. cables, but still show the 0121 and 0122.
Does it sound like my comp might be causing some problems?
If the APPS is dying, could it keep you from acheiving "full throttle?" Power levels have seemed off lately, doesn't seem to be consistent power. (comp on or off)
Third: If a guy was going to get rid of his stock vp44, what would be a good aftermarket hot-rod pump to go with?
Thanks for your time and any inputs...
