HD/blue lights

I heard that Washington State was trying to outlaw the HD (I thingk that is what they called them) lights on vehicles. Other states are pushing to do the same.



I had planned on that upgrade next, but I would hate to spend the money for them and then not be able to use them. Anyone have further word on that?

I, personally, do not like the Blue Light Bulbs. They have to make them extremely bright, blinding oncoming traffic, in order to create enough usable light to use them. The standard halogens, while not looking as cool, create more and better light from less power.



I'm told that to do the upgrade properly, it takes more than just putting in the blue bulbs. I'm all for getting rid of them.

Coop I think the H-D lights dewdo is referring to are much different than blue halogen lights. You usually see them on high end cars and I'd also like to see them banned, they're too damn bright. I run blue halogens on my rigs even though I know they aren't as bright, I like the fact that they don't blind oncoming drivers.

Right, the lights Dewdo are talking about require a different connection and power supply from what I've heard.



You say you're running the blue halogens, are you talking about the standard 9004s that are tinted blue? I personally like the extra bright white lights. Whitneys has 9004s that are 55w/100w versus our 45/65s. The only downside of them are they only last a year before they burn out.

They are called Hi Intensity Discharge and I think they are the best headlights to have come out!

Is anyone here actually running higher wattage headlight bulbs like a 55/100w? It seems to me that the high beam circuit wouldn't be able to handle 100w unless you upgrade it as described here. From what I've read the light switch and the small gauge wiring are the weak points. I've never actually tried those kinds of bulbs though, so I may be wrong.



Does anyone here have any experience with the high wattage bulbs?

I have a sport so the truck uses 4 bulbs on high beam. I have the 50/100 in all sockets. I really like them seem to light up the world when running two lanes across Nevada at night. Ihave had them for almost a year and nobody has complained to me about them. (like I would listen). I did make sure that they were aimed properly after I installed them. The biggest problem whith any head light is proper aiming.

I did, but again, they only lasted a year. I ordered 3, so I would have 1 spare. One blew, I changed it, then the other blew a week later. I changed them both back to the originals. This was, however, in my old Dodge 97 1/2 ton. I haven't had them in my CTD due to the short life.

Try some PIAA Super White bulbs

I had PIAA's in the low and high-beams on my Chevy, and they were a huge improvement over the stock bulbs. They are much brighter and a more clear light than stock, but don't blind on-coming traffic to bad. (You still get brighted by cars low to the ground) The best part is the white light that comes out doesn't hint to the Five-O that anything is different...
